2010 ZX-10r

It's an OK bike if you ask me, it seems a little small though!!

But hey, check this Commercial out of the Bike, pretty neat if you ask me.

I would love to get a zx10r. An 06 in black to match my 14. Maybe next year, just don't tell my wife. That would be a good

I came soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo close to picking up an 08 ZX10 in july. They were going for $8000, brand new, all colors! The only negative I've heard about them is that that can develop a bit of a front shake from hard acceleration. That and they are too top end oriented for street riding. The ZX-10 is the best looking street bike except fot those cross eyed headlamps. They should do something about that.

I heard this bike is remaining unchanged for the third year. With how well it's done in tests, I think Kawi was just fine to leave it another year. The ad mentions some technical improvements but that's just PR, I think. I's still go with an 08.

They changed around a few things and got rid of the crossed eyes!
Now the 10r is an exact copy of the 6r- front fascia, headlights, tank. The only difference is the tail section.
Oh, and the 6r comes with the same Nissin front calipers as the 14 and the 10r comes with the crappy Tokicos and no one has any good explanation for that.

Thought the 2010 had a bit more pretty face. I don't know, I guess I'm used to the crossed eyes now. I actually like that better than the 2010's smoother front. It's really not big enough of a change to be noticeable...at least not in pics.

I rode a 2009 ZX10R around in the stealer's lot this summer. They held the title to my ZX14 while I did it. :)

Back in 08 I almost purchased a ZX10R and changed within a week of receipt to the 14. I don't want to fold up like a pretzel anymore. I'm guessing I could ride one for maybe 30 minutes before the pain grew too much.

If I was 35 years younger it would be an entirely diffent matter, but then, I wouldn't want THAT me to have such a motorcycle.

Hands down, in a roll on from almost any rpm, in almost any gear, to, say, 160 mph, the ZX10R will leave the 14 in the dust. Thats what homologated World Superbikes are supposed to do. I has as much HP as a stock ZX14 almost, and is at least 100 pounds lighter. Revs faster, too.

Of course, every other brand's homologated superbike is faster than the ZX10R, it seems, since I cannot remember a single race won by a rider of a Kawasaki in a decade.

The current 10r doesn't please the crowd too much because (IMHO):

questianable styling- park it next to a anything and look at it again,
you either love it or you hate it... in a 1 in 5 ratio

depreciation- by far (dead last) the worst in the liter class,
you'd take less of a hit on a anything else, anything

too much of a bike for 99% of the people who enjoy the occasional track day retreat,
just a tankslapper waiting to happen

no squid appeal- no wins in any form of motorcycle racing for the folks who get into riding now

I agree that the bike most likely will get u NASTYYY!!!! back problems ESPECIALLY if you're 6'6 like me.

I guess it might be worth it even it accelerates faster than a ZX14 ........ hm!!!!! ... nah

I have ridden my buddies 08 at least a dozen or more times over the summer to include Deals Gap. It has some mild head shake under really hard acceleration but nothing that felt dangerous or that could turn into a tank slapper. The OEM dampner is a joke if I had a zx10 that would be the first thing I would replace it dose very little even cranked all the way up. The suspension on his bike was setup for track days and it’s just brutal to ride on any road that’s not glass smooth. The stock gearing is a mess the bike runs over 100 in first gear why the hell anyone would want a 100+ first gear I have no idea. Besides the very tall 1st gear does very little to keep the front down. The upside of the bike is the handling is great, the brakes are great but that’s the case with all new 1000s. I really like the bike but if you’re not into the race bike feel stay the hell away from a liter bike especially the zx10. Did I miss something in the article?? why would Kaw not run the Big Piston Forks on the new zx10 that supposedly made the new zx6r so great. Hey times are hard maybe they will have them along with real traction control and ABS in 2011. No way the big four are going to let BMW and its s1000rr just take over regardless of price.

The zx14 is in the exact same situation minus the head shake issue and replace track day with drag strip.Yet we know its still a great bike to ride.

........and if you are hauling a 200+ lb payload, I think the 100 lb lighter bike will start to be less significant. Now get your girl on the back and .........nahhhh. Go with the 14. You have torque everywhere to carry a man of your size. I rode with a 100-110 lb passenger and the dif in acceleration compared to just me was not huge. I did not feel as though I should shift at lower rpm with a passenger but 50 -100 mph sprint felt pretty much just as quick with a passenger.

With the ZX-10, you will have to rev way up before the power hits which means you will be speeding all the time and, aaaand -- the ZX-10 was known to have a brutal top end hit which is why the reason for the upgraded damper, I'm sure. If you want to go with a liter bike for the street, check out 07-09 Hondas. A couple guys switched over to those and they love them for the street because they make excellent midrange power.

Of course, every other brand's homologated superbike is faster than the ZX10R, it seems, since I cannot remember a single race won by a rider of a Kawasaki in a decade.

That is true in racing but in comparos for the consumer market, the zx-10 made the most hp and was fastest 0-180, very close to the ZX-14, if I remember correctly. All the liter bikes were within a couple tenths of a second of one another in track testing. The 14 and busa were a second or two behind them.

For most of us who like to race on the street, we aren't going to push any bike to it's limit. It's really too dangerous to get overly competitive with other bikes. Racing with other sportbikes is more a fun loving game of chase. I'm sure it could get a lot more intense if you ride at a track.

Cars are just a joke. I haven't come across one yet that I couldn't easily beat.

I guarantee you that 10R will scare you $hitless compared to your 01 R6 when you open the throttle. Heads up!

Yes, masszx14, you are quite right, there is no one in this forum who wouldn't be scared $hitless when they crack open the throttle on a ZX10R coming out of a turn.

The head shake is minor and completely disappears with proper suspension settings and tires, and as mentioned, replacing the stock damper with a bigger Ohlins.

Some said if you added a passenger or a heavy rider the advantage over a ZX14 would fade. Nope. The ZX10R starts out 100+ pounds lighter, with virtually the same horsepower and torgue as the ZX14. So it would still have an advantage.

Like I said, it I was 35 years younger, I'd have an 09 ZX10R and be happy as could be. The ONLY reason I didn't buy a ZX10R back in 08 when I got the ZX14 is ergonomics. I can't ride a ZX10R anymore.

The current R1 is a better 1000 for street riding IMHO. Better ergos, much stronger mid-range and linear powerband and much better brakes. It does lack the mind boggling top end power of the 10r and it's slightly heavier too.
The new cbr is also starting to grow on me- looks awesome in race fairings.

They are all too much for my local tracks- I ride the R1 like an automatic at Loudon NH stuck in 2nd gear and just lugging the extra weight. NJMP you get a chance to open up more but you still lose it in the tighter sections to the smaller and better turning bikes.

I'm happy with the gsxr 750 at the track but it's boring on the street- the power of the 14 has ruined me for that.
And it's a torture to ride- you're cramped and getting punished, can't do over 100 miles in a day.

I still consider the 04-05 10r as the best 1000- upgrade the brakes with the zx14 calipers and for dirt cheap you can buy an amazing machine these days. I didn't keep mine and I've regretted it.

I rode the 09' 10R. It's as small and compact as the 6 it really is cramped if your taller than 5'8". The 250 has more room on it. For me it would make a good track bike, something you were going to ride for 20 minute sessions. Much beyond that and it really starts to take a toll on the body. It's still a brutal bike though

In our SA National Superbike racing, ZX 10 and ZX 6 won both titles ridden by Sheridan Morias. 13 wins from 13 starts. New world record. Raced both classes in the same day and won them all. Not too shabby for a Kawa, or what?

Yeah, im 6'6 unfortunatly. So if anything goes wrong i just STEP off the bike. What's the deal with you're length though? Do you use a ladder to get on or???? HA HA .... HA!!!

Check the Other Bikes section and you'll see how I barely fit on the 750 @ 6'1 and 170-175 lbs. in shorts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-FtiEGTN5Q&feature=channel

The body position for my frame on the 14 is just spot on.
