Some who have obscene disposable income (you can tell by all the wheels they own) may find the 2012 ZX14R attractive at $16,000 (any less and KHI will be losing money) but most of us can't do that.
Take an objective look at how you ride.
This is the only way to make a decision if you aren't in the afore mentioned class of rich people.
DogoZX hit the nail on the head, when he asked me if I was finally going to break a 4 decade plus chain of custody on flagship Kawasaki performance bike models. Yes, I am. And yet I will still drool all over the 2012 ZX14R because how I ride has changed, but I'm not dead yet.
I think my aborted sojourn into buying a big Harley was just an overreaction to my coming to the conclusion I don't care about speed and 1/4 mile potential at all anymore. I'm glad it didn't happen, it would have been a mistake.
When I buy a new bike next spring or early summer, it will more likely be a BMW than a Harley, but I will test them all, and do my research, just like I did when I canceled my order for 2008 ZX10R in favor of the ZX14. And even that was still premised on who I used to be, not who I am today.
I ride a lot more miles, and a lot more hours, to a lot of events and with moderate size groups now. And its not about getting there fastest, its about getting there in comfort and style. Hence the extreme swing in bike choice from an overweight wanna-be sportbike to an overweight touring bike.
So make your decision based on what you REALLY want from riding.
What do we know about the 2012 ZX14R. Little, but we know it is at least 1429cc more or less. So it will have around 210 rwhp if the ECU lets it have it. Consider though, its not getting into the US and parts of Europe with over 200 rwhp. So expect it to be gimped just like the new ZX10R. Maybe Guhl will do a ECU flash package for it.
But it will also weigh more than the 2011 ZX14 unless they put really expensive parts on it. I.E. the base price goes up again. Bigger pistons weigh more, unless they cost twice as much. And so on. Horsepower costs money.
Long way around the barn, but if you try to reason it out, without getting your ego involved, and you still come back to the 2012, then go for it!
