ZX14R Unleashed
04/11/12 2:06 PM

Finally got this project over with and I am happy with the results. This has been a 2 month project involving 50+ dyno runs and several tune files. ECU mods are: RPM limit raised to 11,400, top speed limiter removed, timing retard in lower gears removed, ECU unleashed and has a new map. Here is the dyno results with before & after. Currently waiting on pricing, I am setup to be a dealer and will be able to offer ZX14ninjaforum members a special price. Email me if your interested, senodil@aol.com. PLEASE do not PM me...

Yes, its with Brock's CT, but the flash will work with any Brock's pipe on pump gas. Same mapping for all the Brock's pipes on 2012 14R.

The Guhl flash does not have mapping? You need an ECU flash AND a PCV??? How much was the ECU flash? $375?

Why so fat 4400-5400 rpms?

*Update*
I have had a few PM's & Emails asking more specifics. Here is a quote from the guy behind the scenes..
"This new tune file is slated to be released on May 1st. There were many changes made, not only to the STPs - which were manipulated to increase intake velocity; this resulted in an increase in hp and torque in the middle, but not on top. Ignition maps were changed, as you said - everything was de-restricted: the separate gear limiters and the top speed limiter are now gone. "On/off" deceleration maps were changed to make the bike smoother through turns, and the fueling was definately changed. Ignition timing alone netted 2 more hp, while the fueling got us the other 6. Torque came up significantly across the board with some good gains in the middle. Another change has to do with modes - with this tune file the ZX14 will remain in whatever mode the bike was in when the ignition is turned off. When you turn the ignition back on, you won't have to "reset" your traction control - the bike will be in the same mode it was in when turned off. I know one guy who lost a race because stock, it has to be reset every time you restart the bike. Several people were involved in this particular tune file, many hours and dyno tuning/testing went into it. POWERHOUSE is responsible for all the fuel tuning that resulted, and all the dyno testing and data logging that got us to this point. There were other changes made internally to the ecu that I have not mentioned . . . all of it will be published when the file is officially introduced May 1st. Stay tuned! "

Dogo, that was when the WOT was applied... It will happen throughout the graph whenever WOT occurs, just a part of the fueling that cannot be changed. I asked the same question and basically was told a "more technical" answer that I forgot to be honest!

"On/off" deceleration maps were changed to make the bike smoother through turns, and the fueling was definately changed.

Very cool! ECUnleashed could not do that in my '08's ECU.

When you turn the ignition back on, you won't have to "reset" your traction control - the bike will be in the same mode it was in when turned off.

Even cooler!

Good stuff, Seno.

Dogo, that was when the WOT was applied...

Gotcha... Just used to seeing charts where the tuner "smooths" that out (on paper).

Well...it's interesting for sure.I have a factory ECU sitting here...factory stock.New.You pay for an exhaust system..not cheap.Then a PCV....not cheap either.

So you mean...you get the exhaust...yes?...then,you get the ECUnleashed deal...and that's how much?"eliminating' the need for the PCV...yes?Okay...so if your going to save any cash...that ECUnleashed thing has to be less than the PCV...right?Assuming you're beginning with a stock ECU and sending it out to get unleashed. And what if you DON'T like the performance of your ECU unleashed?Say it needs some more tweaking...what then?I think you follow me on this, yes?

Instead of going on a website and downloading the latest best performance mapping, and changing it via your computer...you now do what?I mean...piping is piping...it can only get so good. But mapping...that can change as things go along(until it too reaches a limit). That ECU flash, and PCV mapping are really accomplishing the same thing..yes..they're BOTH determining the fuel/air and ignition mapping, and bypassing the factory map...EXCEPT...you can't manipulate your flashed ECU...and set different values in there without...what?But you CAN change your values(mapping and ignition)with that PCV...fairly simply and quickly...for free(and your factory ECU settings are still available).IDK....PCV...300 dollars.Guhl flash...375....Pipes....1800.Maps for a lifetime...free(kinda).ECU unleashed...dollars(????)....sending it off for 'reflash' as time goes by and more improvements are discovered...dollars(????)Shipping.Waiting.Hoping.Trying...not liking...sending back...waiting...shipping dollars...hoping.Getting it back....not quite what you wanted....shipping...waiting...spending.IDK...I think I like the map PCV idea better.PLUS...it can always be undone in a matter of a few hours max.And a new map loaded in if need be.I'm a pragmatist I guess.Just seems easier and less expensive going with the mapping alternative of the PC unit.I'm not sure these 'maps'(including ignition tables), whether through an ECU adjustment or a PCV are really near reaching the 'end' of the performance curve anytime soon. But it's very hard to imagine that the latest gains are that far off from the end of the possibilities.I think you can only go so far...and that's it.Whether flashing OR PCing.

""On/off" deceleration maps were changed to make the bike smoother through turns"...I'm still at a loss as to what they mean by..."making it smoother through the turns"

Grn14, I believe Seno was asking about your statement, "already have my Guhl flash" in regards to how Seno had enough dyno runs done to develop an A/F map to flash to his ECU which is optimized for his configuration.

Also, unless you are going to be changing your exhaust frequently, why would you need a piggy? If you can't access dyno tuning services, thats a good reason to have a PC5 with Autotune, so you can do it yourself.

In which case the Guhl flash without Don developing a replacment A/F table makes sense. But he could still get rid of the low rpm ignition retardation, and bump the rpm limit, and get rid of the speed limit, and a few other tricks.

Also, I'm curious, you said, "already have my Guhl flash (Brock)" and I'm wondering what Brock Davidson has to do with Don Guhl. BP is in Ohio, Guhl is in Pennsylvania. So maybe we are just confused.

EDIT: I know last time I talked to Don Guhl he said he could flash for specific exhaust systems sight-unseen because he has dyno-ed so many of them on stock bikes.

"But he could still get rid of the low rpm ignition retardation, and bump the rpm limit, and get rid of the speed limit, and a few other tricks".Yes...that's exactly what he did.NO FUEL MAPPING.

"already have my Guhl flash (Brock)" and I'm wondering what Brock Davidson has to do with Don Guhl.

Don Guhl flashed Brock's ECU.To get him where he's at now in regards to his dyno numbers. It's the same flash. That's what I meant. The Guhl flash is not set for piping...it's set for ignition and as you mentioned...rpm limits and top speed limiter removal and secondary opening points.Just so happens it works very well...very...with the Brock line of new exhaust systems. They're not done yet...the mapping and all.

Let me say this however...I'm not buddy buddy with any of em...so my 'knowledge' about what they're doing is basically...what I understand from reading about this whole deal(Brock's/Guhl).I'm not saying they're like working together necessarily...although...they may be...IDK.I'm only going by Brock's posted Dyno runs and his Guhl flash...which is the same one in mine.Unless they lied to me?????They're probably making changes right now as we speak...so basically...I have the 'first' of however many ECU flashes out of Guhl for the zx14R with flies and all.I was advised to leave them in...by one of Brock's close friends...for street riding that is.The flash has pretty much altered the opening rpm times for em.So removing is virtually unneeded for my application.

Ok, I got it and I imagine Seno does too.

Sometime this summer, I need to schedule it with Don, I'm riding my Connie to him and we'll dyno her 5 times and he'll flash based on that.

I'm not even changing the exhaust from stock, but Don can get me some HP and torque especially down low by getting rid of the ignition retardation.

I'll have the top speed restriction removed just for yucks and grins. And have the secondary butterfly table set so they open right off idle and stay more open than stock.

Then if for some reason I do replace the exhaust sometime in the future, I will just ride back to Guhl and do it over, replacing only the A/F table.

It has been mentioned...'the Brock's flash"...okay...so....I can't say with certainty that Guhl has flashed Brock's most recent trials.I'm assuming here that he has however...and the mapping(not flashing) is being done by Brock or his team. With the PCV installed.I absolutely don't want to speak for someone else....so all my words are based on public 'knowledge'....not my own guessing as I said.Except for who's flashing what at this time...that...IDK.I'd imagine Brock if he is having Guhl flash it...he's probably telling him how he wants it done...maybe?So Guhl may be doing the physical part...and Brock...the technical side...IDK.

I guess I'll call Don up and ask him. I need to schedule my trip up there. I'm sure he can explain it to me.
