My wife and I went to New York City to hang out for a few days and I couldn't believe the amount of sportbikes riding around and the low speed maneuvering ability they possess. I was way impressed with there throttle/brake/clutch control. I'm not sure if they could drag a knee at 90 miles an hour around a nice sweeper, but stop and go, weave in and out, come to a complete stop and not put there feet down...they got that covered for sure. So if there are any NYC riders reading this, My hats off to you.

Anyone can ride a bike fast, it takes skill to ride slow!

Sport bikes has always been popular in New York City. And with thousands of yellow taxi cabs zigzagging in every corner, bikers have to learn pretty quick to avoid or share the road with them. It's a matter of survival.

A few of us made it out to Bear Mountain State Park last November for an IBA run and the park was full of riders. We met a bunch of folks from NYC on crotch rockets. Talked bikes, swapped stories, good peeps them NY folk. They thought we were crazy doing a 1000 mile run in one day just for fun.

I think I saw an episode of SuperBikes and they showcased NYC riders. All sportbikes if I recall. The rider clubs there are off the hook.
Would you folks say that this is still a vibrant part of riding in NY?

If that was the show where they interviewed members of the club Legion Of Doom. then that was me in the show. I was with them years ago.

Been there done that. Awesomeness and crazy doing a buck thirty through the Lincoln tunnel or what ever tunnel it was we went though.

Once you learn how to use that back brake with the throttle, it makes slow riding a lot easier. Not claiming that I'm a pro rider or anything but that's just something that I picked up from my father after he attended the riding school to become a motorcycle officer. That class is insane. Great class to take if you get the chance. I can now come to a complete stop for a good 2-3 seconds without putting my feet down and just take right back off again.

Couple of friends and myself like to ride down every year from upstate NY ... for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. The only thing better than riding a bike in the city, is riding a bike in the city while wearing a suit!
