Retrofit S/E Brembo Calipers
04/23/20 8:39 PM

Researching the possibility of retrofitting Brembo's on my 2013 model.

Here are the numbers I BELIEVE are correct???

1. Disc Diameter: S/E= 310mm Mine= 320mm

2. Caliper Mounting bolt distance: S/E= 100mm Mine: 108mm

3. Spacers S/E= 13mm Mine= 8mm

I would think that the Master Cylinder/Lever would be a direct swap over. However, don't know for sure about the brake lines.

Also, any of the associated electrical switches and/or wiring?

Anybody else ever researched the swap or possibly have done it?

What am I missing or forgetting?

Unfortunately, there is no one near me with an S/E for me to get the info.

Appreciate it.

2. Caliper Mounting bolt distance: S/E= 100mm Mine: 108mm

How are you going to fix that? Swap forks?

1. Disc Diameter: S/E= 310mm Mine= 320mm

sure about that? Stock is 310?

3. Spacers S/E= 13mm Mine= 8mm

Sure about that? going from 320 to 310 spacers should be smaller.

Seems like the numbers are backwards?

Like... Stock rotors 310, SE rotors 320?

Stock Nissin calipers don't have spacers.

Are you sure the rotors are stock? As far as I can recall, stock rotors are 310 and no spacers
on calipers. If someone upgrade rotors to 320mm then would need 5mm on calipers.

I'm confused.

The Nissin caliper and master are very good, not much to gain by this, except
for bling. But bling is good too.

Here is the thread where I got my numbers. The thread was confusing so I'm not surprised if my numbers are incorrect.

Your text to link here...

Hence the phrase "I BELIEVE" in the second sentence in the post.

That is why I started this thread for clarification and to get information.

I would THINK the calipers, m/c and discs from a 2016 or 2018 would bolt right up?

If so, then the only issue I can see would be any electronic/wiring issues.

My bike does not have ABS so I don't know if the electrical connectors coming off the m/c are the same or would cause an issue.

Can't say I really need the Brembo's but I like to tinker with my bikes and make them my own.

I would think the Kawasaki "OEM" Brembo stuff would bolt up.
Rotors, M/C with connector for brake light, brake lines, etc.

Brembo Calipers come in 100mm and 108mm mountings. Ohlins forks have
108mm mounting. Stock forks are 100mm I would assume the OEM
Brembos are 100mm too.

According to https://www.oppracing.com/
Same rotors for....
Kawasaki ZX14 (ABS) (ZZR1400) 2006-2015
Kawasaki ZX14 (ZZR1400) 2006-2015

Stock rotors would be 310mm for both bikes.

Would only need caliper spacers if you went to 320mm, 330mm rotors.

I recently upgraded my zx10 to later model zx10 rotors 300->310, converted rotors
from semi-floating to full floating, Nissin Calipers spaced 5mm, braided lines, Motul rbf 600
fluid, Vesrah RJL pads, Nissin Master. Combo works great.

Maybe you can just get those fake Brembo snap on covers that go over the
stock calipers like the car guys do, that would save a lot of money and still
give you the bling look.

Thanks for confirming the numbers.

As for your ZX 10, did you upgrade it to the Nissan calipers from the Tokicos?

What about the M/C ?

Part of the reason I ask is that the newer ZX 10's appear to have the same Brembo calipers and M/C as the 2016/2018 ZX 14 S/E.

Or at least the part numbers are the same. If so, it would surely be easier for me to source ZX 10 parts than ZX 14 S/E parts.

I could still retain my OEM discs for now.

BTW

I would never do anything so ghetto as to putting on those fake covers. I would take my calipers off and have them painted with the Brembo logo. LOL

Thanks

Yes, swapped for the Nissin's

What about the M/C ?

Already had the Nissin MC

If so, it would surely be easier for me to source ZX 10 parts than ZX 14 S/E parts.

yes, they should swap. The calipers and rotors can swap too from zx10 -> zx14
Getting 14 SE parts would be pretty hard, easier to just buy new Brembo stuff.

That site I mentioned above is good source for parts and cross referencing.

10-4 Now I'm getting somewhere.

The only two issues I can foresee is will the brake switch assembly at the Nissin M/C on my bike have the same mounting holes/location as the Brembo M/C off of a ZX 10 R.

They have the same general part # 27010.

However, they have different sub part numbers:

27010-0025 for the ZX 14

27010-0831 for the ZX 10

And

Will the brake lines bolt up to the ZX 10 Brembos. Didn't know if they were the same diameter which could cause issues due to different volumes of brake fluid in the lines.

Hey Piken,

Stock forks are 100mm I would assume the OEM
Brembos are 100mm too.

Just measured my forks bolt hole to bolt hole distance and came up with 108mm.

???????????

I might have it wrong.

Just checked my 10 and 14 and both are 108mm

I guess just be aware that there are 2 standard spacing's in calipers 100mm and 108mm, especially
in aftermarket parts when mixing forks, calipers, etc.

Yeah, strange isn't it.

Anyway, the Brembo's I had sourced from a 2017 ZX 10R aren't going to work since they are 100 mm spec.

I've reached out to a friend that has a new 2019 ZX 14R that comes with the Brembo's and have asked him to measure his for me.

It would appear that some the ZX 10's take the 100mm Brembo (possibly the newer models?).

Whereas the ZX 14's take the 108mm Brembo.

To be continued..................

What little I know:
Have my 2013 discs on me 2017 SE Brem's.
2013 and 2017 have the same 186 center number, but the last 3 numbers change. Might be for colors of legs and tubes.
Piken's photo above is the same disc pattern used from 2006 to 2015.
2016 and up have a full round disc diameter, not the one above with the cuts removed on the outer edge of the disc.

Say, brem baby,we've been running these 186'ers during the whole production's life. Here's the spec on the disc and the lower leg. Here too is our budget for the SE, and to sweeten the pot, you come up with a proposal and we.... Sign here.

Say brem baby, think you can banjo bolt our thread pitch per mm?... is the possible part, where a nissan might not screw into a brem caliper or brem master? Might be metric pitch for both brem and niss?

Say the parts swap goes like this:
Leg ~ Looks like it hasn't changed.
Disc ~ You're going to use the same disc no matter the year born or died.
Caliper ~ Here is where eye to eye matters to match lower leg. Both caliper bolt length for both is the same 10x60.
Banjo ~ Nissan might use different pitch, but maybe not. Both lengths are available, meaning dual hose or single hose banjo lengths.
Hose position under the master or out the side... choose the brem that has that matching position, or change to steel lines... custom made for bent/straight banjo hose ends.

I'm with ya Hub.

Until I can source a set of Brembo's off of an S/E or 2019 bike I'm stuck with the Nissin's.

I thought I had found a work around with the calipers from a ZX 10.

Not to be :(

Thanks

O.K.

Update

Apparently Kawasaki changed the caliper mounting bracket's located at the end of the forks at some point.

Don't know if it is ONLY for the bikes equipped with the Brembos or all model years after 2013.

My friend has the 2019 model with Brembos and the caliper mounting bolts measure 100mm center to center.
