kevlar jeans

Has anybody here crash tested a pair of Kevlar jeans? If so I'd be curious what brand you were wearing and how they or better yet you held up during your excursion. I typically ride with leathers or textile pants but think I'm going to add a pair of jeans to the mix. I have a couple of old Icon Recon jeans but there nothing special and don't seem like they would hold up well in a crash.

Someone on here was talking about Drayko Kevlar jeans so I looked up their web site. They have some great vids of guy sliding along on their butts for long distances with no burn thru. I bought a pair and like them a lot. No armor which is a bit disconcerting but a good riding pants.

No I haven't crashed in them (knock on wood), but I have two pairs of the Drayko jeans, in blue & black. I seem to remember Drayko claims 4.4 seconds of protection during a slide. Hopefully I never 'get' to test how protective they are, but they're just what I was looking for: Regular looking jeans that have crash protection built in.

My only two minor complaints would be price (they ain't that cheap) and the pockets are kinda shallow, oddly so. Not terrible, but not sure why they'd skimp on pocket depth. Shrug.

After looking at the price of Drayko's I don't think the shallow pockets will matter...I won't have anything left to put in them.
I'm going to order a pair, is there waist sizes accurate? thanks

I found the size to be correct. I usually wear a 34x32 jean so I ordered a 36 waist cause I didn't want them to snug snug but they are to big. If I was going to order again I would order my same jean size - and the pockets are indeed shallow.

I wear Levi's 569 size 32Wx32L, and feel like I wear them middle-of-the-road ... not too baggy, not too tight, very average ... and after reading reviews saying the Drayko's run big, I ordered size 30. Glad I ordered thru Revzilla, cuz I had to return them for size 32, which then fit just right. They are long when walking around, but sit nicely on my boot when riding. I paid $129.95 in Sept of 2013 ... so things mighta changed since then.

I crash tested a pair of Draggin Jeans, they worked great, although I got a broken collarbone, shoulder,
ribs, and collapsed lung, I only got a quarter size rash on my knee, but the jeans didnt tear.

They run a little small, but not by much. Hope this helps

Hey 'Abuser

Can I get you to tell us what happened? I'm always looking to learn from other's, and your description reminds me I need to keep learning, cause that's less painful.

Thanks...

BTW, I got another important lesson schooled to me this morning. An aggressive rider on a sports bike passed me, in my lane (to my left side), during morning rush hour commute. I had just completed a merged into center lane, of three lanes. I saw him, knew he was behind me. He was 50 yards back, at least, and stable not moving forward (I looked twice at him). Suddenly he's passing me. If you had seen the crush of traffic surround us, and his open, target window route, I believe you would agree he had tread where angels did not dare.

I shake my head in amazement. He disappeared into the crowd.

Three miles later, he was down. High speed curve to the left, accident scene comes into view. Narrow freeway left shoulder, next to a 6 ft wall. A group of people all standing around. Then a car. Followed by the cycle on it's side, that same cycle. I did not see the rider.

Chilling.

The lesson I learned again today is two-fold: People will do the selfish stupid thing, 100% of the time, Every Time, and... Other motorcyclist present one of the biggest threats to my safety on the road. You are welcome to dispute these points, but I'm now an "old" pilot. I've not yet "seen it all", but I've seen enough to make me believe this.

If I believe it, then I count on it, even if it turns out to not be true *that time*.

Yeah, MEB, I'm very a defensive rider, always looking around ... including watching to make sure one of my own buds does run up on me when I have to hit the brakes hard. We don't even pass each other unannounced. We're always on intercom so it's easy to say, "Comin' around" ... so that helps. I know not everybody has intercoms. Of course, you wouldn't have been intercommed with that rider anyway.

Glad he didn't drag you into his mess.

Hey Meb,

How are you ? what happened to me, was I was going down a road off the canyons, doing the speed limit,
and this old lady just pulled out in front of me, I even saw her at the stop sign, before she pulled out
in front of me, it was a small street, no where for me to go, so I hit the brakes, and went to the left
of her driver door, good thing, if I didn't, I would probably have ended up in her driver door or in the car
itself and probably wouldnt be typing right now ...

As it was, I hit her front bumper full force with my shoulder, and went over ther front of the car
(I think, I blacked out for a couple seconds) all I remember is seeing the car in my path, hitting the
brakes, don't remeber the actual impact, I remember hearing my jacket sliding on the ground and waking up
to a guy with a water bottle asking "are you alright brother ?"

anyways, broken shoulder, collarbone, ribs, and collapsed lung, but I made it through.

Ride safe brother(s) !!!

Wow, 'buser good reminder for us all that things can go south quick on these things ... especially on a bike as effortlessly fast and smooth as the big ZX. And as heavy, so not quite as easy to evade attacking drivers.

Glad you're still around.

I dunno where the lowest price would be ... could just google it ... but as I stated I bought from Revzilla since they ship for free and accept returns, and I needed to use that since the first pair was too small.

Revzilla does business through Amazon, maybe? I like Amazon. No hassle returns, and product to the front door. 1st World Life is good, easy, eh?

'Abuser: Little ole' lady is stopped at sign, does not see you, and then pulls out into the intersection? Boy Howdy, a classic T bone.

So, what will you do different, now? More lights out front? Brighter lights? Burn the hi beams during the day?

I made a good case to myself to buy cruisers, because they rationalize the ability to put a "passing lamps" bar out front, and I can make that pretty bright without being offensive.

When I moved to the 14R, I rationalized the purchase with 4 lamps out front, that's maxed out. (I don't buy / consider single lamp sports bikes for this reason). Then, I began burning the hi beams full time, but stopped doing that because, I think, someone told me that was annoying the traffic. Now? Well, now I get to re-learn something on your shoulders, and have something to think about again.

Anyway, I *am* glad you're mended? mending? You're gonna be OK...

Glad to hear it!

The stupid are everywhere. So are the crazy. Not sure which the rider was. Or the old lady. But that's the thing, we can never assume. After all, the person in that car is a stupid blind loon! Or the guy on the bike, with no limits in site, knows they can wheelie with impunity over the moon!

Don't waiver being your own lifesaver. 2016 riding season just getting here. Last year was a really good year on the forum as far as wreck reports. Let's have another great year. Ride fast, ride hard, but never forget even during that 120 mph sweeping turn to be defensive.

Ok guys, a slight departure from the Kevlar jeans, and that is Kevlar liners. I see Draggin makes some, or at least did. A visit to their website indicates out of stock and no one seems to have them. I like the ability to use my own jeans and wearing them underneath. Unable to find a place to buy them, I am thinking about buying some Kevlar materiel (via ebay) and having someone locally make them for me...any thoughts?

It seems a good idea, but I think I would not.

The material is difficult to sew, and the seams have to be "right".

One layer will likely not be enough. the material gets much stronger when "cross-grained" with itself, with a couple layers.

If you decide to try this, also buy Kevlar thread.
