Hey everyone I'm looking to have my foreman grill fins painted to match my Candy Plasma Blue 14. If anyone knows of someone would you please let me know who it is and I would just ship them out to them to have it done, or if someone can give me some instructions on doing it myself I may try it in the garage at home but I would rather have a prefessional do it. I'll probably just get the grills painted on my 2009 Monster Edition. I'd like mine to be painted gloss black to match the 2009 paint scheme.

I will do them for $100 plus the cost of a can of coloright spray paint.

and clearcoat.

Yea I have the same bike and I have been trying to find out where to get
some new solid black grills for mine. I know one of the 06 color schemes
was solid black and I suppose those grills would fit my 09. But I don't know
where to get them. If I was to paint the grills. What kind of prep work do
you need to do before painting? Thanks

JB...check out this link to the 2007 OEM Side Panels in black. From what I understand they will fit an 09. Part #36001 on the diagram

Sure...no problem. 2nd best thing to finding them 2nd hand. I just got mine yesterday in the mail. Bought them from alaskarider.

I looked into the colorite aerosol paint but it's a two step process that requires me to but two cans of paint, the base and the top layer and that is going to run roughly $70. Do I need the base to do just the fins or can I get away with just the one can of paint.

I just used the top color coat from colorrite. I didn't see the need for the base. I followed it up with a few coats of rust-oleum crystal clear.

I'd like to paint the grills too but don't know who to go to. It would be great to do it myself but I'm afraid of runs or an uneven coat. The fins look like a run waiting to happen.
Is the Color-rite aerosol paint easier to apply than standard spray can paint? A different spray tip or viscosity? I've had trouble in the past, mostly applying an even coat that has a uniform finish.
Painting a BBQ or something around the house is one thing. I don't want to screw up anything on the bike.

I'm going to give it a try when it warms up a bit, I'll keep you posted when I do.

For all of you that have 06s and 07s...do the black grills match the color of your frames or do you find that the grill itself is a little more black and the frame is a more "flat black"?

I have an '07 Diablo black metallic.
The grills and frame both look metallic though it's a satin finish. I made a cap to cover the steering nut and found a perfect match for the frame by using satin black and then just a dusting of metallic black over that. Looks identical if you apply the right amount of metallic.
To me, the grills do not match the frame that closely. The grills have a flatter look than the frame. I see more metallic on the frame than the grills. Once in awhile I apply some F21(like Armor-all)to the grills and it makes them shine better but it goes away pretty quickly.
The bike would look much better with painted grills to match the bodywork. Ever since I saw the '08 in Midnight blue on the web I've wanted it done. I thought the Midnight blue was black in the pic and was ready to order a set. If I still had the stock '07 silver finished wheels I would think about ordering some silver '08 grills and then masking off the fins and painting the rest gloss black. I think that combo would work.
I may still paint the upper fairing covers too.

hey man ,i used engine heat paint on mines and came out perfect.painted fins and bottom farrings almost ebony black which is the bike color(06).painted with high heat semi-gloss black and came behind it with a high heat clear-coat.less than $20 bucks and got plenty of praise 4 it.reason i used high heat due 2 the fact:(this bike can get really hot on your legs).don't 4get the hi-heat primer also.will send a better picture of mine 2morrow!

Mack...would love to see the picture. A close up of it next to the frame would be great just to see how they match up.
