Best Quickshifter

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the site and have a very basic question. What's the best quick shifter out there or what are some experiences you all have with them. I have a 2007 ZX14 with a few mods. I do a lot of street riding and me and my friends like to do roll-ons and sprints from the dig.

I have only had experience with the HM quickshifter but I did research the other brands out there on the market a few years back. Very nice. It's one of my favorite mods. I've had problems missing shifts which is not only embarrassing but potentially damaging to the gear box if you don't know how to make the shift after missing. If you have the pressence of mind to kick it up into gear immediately, there is no problem. Use the clutch or just re-quickshift immediately. If you are caught off guard and wait a second you better just pull the clutch and slow down or stop to get it in gear. If you know how high to rev for your gear and wheel speed should be no problem. saeems to happen more at high rpm and I suspect it has a lot to do with not shifting the lever fast enough for the engine speed. Planning to try GPshift pattern soon to compensate and also play with kill time.

I would suggest buying a shifter that is capable of kill times that are adjustable/gear if you're serious. that will cost you. My hm (think it is the HM plus) was $700. Also, a shifter capable of clutchless downshifts is worth the extra $$ if only for the fun factor alone. The quichshifter makes riding a lot more exciting and being able to clutchless downshift would be all the better.

Beware of the Annitorri quickshifter. Last time i read up on this, it was no longer the HM shifter rebranded as Annitori. Annitori was making their own and there were a lot of problems. Annitorri is a great company but their quickshifter was not makin' it a couple years ago. Do homework on that one. It was suposed to be a lower priced option to the HM plus but somehow got cheapened up where it affected the performance.

Bazzaz makes an awesome quickshifter/fuel module/TC unit. QS on the Bazzaz was highly adjustable. Great to have all 3 of those in one and will cost a lot less than buying that stuff separately. I favor Dynojet products for the 14 but it's splitting hairs and most are happy with a flash rather than using modules anyway. DJ makes a quickshifter that would integrate right in with their other electronics and I believe it was reviewed favorably in recent years. The DJ quickshifter was given awful reviews back around 08-09 but it probably was upgraded since then. No experienc with a DJ QS but probably a cheaper alternative to HM.

An electric shifter is best if your drag racing. Can't speak to which brands are best. You can use a thumb lever to shift or you can set to autoshift with a few other electronics but it will be costly---like ~$600 plus whatever the shifter cost you. Ask Romans if interested in electric shift.

If you like the road race setup better, I would look at the higher end HM shifters. Last I checked, the HM GP was the best and that's what I'd get if buying again. Was over $1000 but I'm not kidding you about what a kick in the ass one of these setups are. I'm generally really modest about rating mods but quickshifters are the shit!

You'll need rearsets for most strain gauge shifters. DJ works with OEM. Electric shifters should work with OEM too.

You don't list what your existing mods are, but if you have a Power Commander V, it has a quick shifter circuit built in. You just need to add a switch. You can use a linkage-type switch, or you can use a thumb-button. I have a thumb button on my VFR, and it does shift fast... like 80 milliseconds. Using a quick shifter at full throttle is a huge rush on the VFR, I can't wait to try it on the ZX14.

After 3 seconds of full throttle, everything else on the road becomes 'Oncoming Traffic'...

I have used the Bazzaz ZFI TC QS on my Zx10r. I had zero problems with the setup and as Rook stated having the entire system in a single module was cheaper overall and worked in harmony. Full throttle upshifts were so easy and smooth. I highly recommend it.
It is available as a stand alone QS too.
Healtech's new quickshifter EZ looks interesting and budget friendly but I have no experience with it.

Either way get a quick shifter they really do improve the way the ride feels.
