Riding 2 Up
10/31/09 11:38 AM

Hey, question for you guys that take your ladies with you:

My wife is starting to get on the back of my '14 more, but can't seem to get comfortable. She says she always feels like she's falling over on me. To prevent this, she supports herself on the tank as if doing a pushup; this, in turn, makes her back muscles sore.

Have any of your ladies complained about the same thing? Any tips out there on how she could modify her position on the bike to achieve more comfort. BTW, she's about 5'4 @110 lbs if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

maybe some implants she could rest on your back. Say DD or so?
I switched to the connie seat. It's thicker, and relaxes her legs a little. Plus I try to scoot forward more, so I'm more upright giving her a more verticle support.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

The part of riding double which I've always liked is the girl putting her arms around me and hugging tight. When I was younger I used to carry an extra helmet in my saddlebag just incase I ran into an attractive woman. Once you get her on the back you can get her on her back! I'm such a sensitive guy...

It was pretty well covered here. The Triboseat mentioned by scottjkyl sounds like a really great, cheap way to keep your girl's azz on her own seat. Looks like they make them for pilot seat too.

Wifey's a very leggy 5'-10" and seriously hates pillion on the 14. There's no seat that would make enough of a difference for her. Other bikes I've owned have been fine for her but my beloved ZX makes her back ache just thinking about it.

The girl I ride with has gotten very good at bracing herself with a hand on the tank when I come to a stop. This has prevented her being in the drivers cut out of the seat with me. As you can imagine, when she slid forward, I had to go some place. Ouch! No complaints about the comfort though. She likes to lean on me and hold on...tightly.

I never even feel my wife back there, sometimes I reach back just to make sure. we've been riding together for 25 years though. She uses her thighs to brace when stopping so she doesn't crowd me and just holds on to my waist when excelerating. Now when we hit the twisty stuff she hangs of also. I guess it's just a matter of getting comfortable and used to the back seat.

I wish like anything that my wife could deal with the 14 but it just isn't going to happen. We've ridden together on many bikes for many years but she's just too bunched up back there on this one; she could go for days on the back of my ZRX. At first I though that maybe she was just pissed that I bought another bike and was boycotting it, but after hearing her out I let a friend buzz me around on it for a couple of miles to check out the accommodations. I'm 6'3" and she's 5'10" and I was miserable after a few miles all folded up like a pretzel. Conversely, I took a friend out for a ride who's 5'4" and she was fine for 65 miles.

But everyone's different.....just my 2 cents.
