Hello, new zx 14 guy here
02/23/12 12:52 PM

Hello everyone...I am new to this forum, I have been reading it for a few months and finally decided to join in myself. It looks like you guys are full of a lot of useful information. I got my 14 back in October. I graduated from a 09 Yamaha FZ6 to my 2010 Zx14 and I am loving every minute of it. Luckily today here in the D.C. area it is 70 degrees and she felt the need to come out of the garage and stretch her legs a little bit. Good riding everyone, just wanted to stop off and introduce myself.

Thanks for the welcome! I know I graduated to a real bike...lol...The difference is night and day for the FZ6...not just the power, but the overall quality of the bike. Now I am just trying to figure out what I want to do to dress her up a bit. I know I want some slip on exhaust. Trying to find some thicker hand grips, haven't been able to locate a good pair yet. I also want to get a new windscreen. Again, trying to pick out the right one. I will keep up with everyone and hopefully pick up some good ideas for some mods. Look forward to talking to you guys.

If you are into sport riding I would go with a full system. You don't need the extra power but The weight reduction is dramatic and the extra hp is there too. A slipon will drop a good amount of weight and sound nice but I'd buy a beat up used full system before I went to a slipon. JMHO. The stock header is heavy.

...course, then you will want to have a PC on there too. Slipon, I would go without a PC if I didn't have the bucks right now.

How about a used slipon for $200. Use it for a while and just see if you don't decide you want a full system?

Thanks for the info Rook. I am not going to be taking this on a track or anything like that. I would like to take it some long rides this summer. I really want a different exhaust, just so I can be heard a little better on the roads around here. I was thinking about looking for some used slip on, I was checking ebay and craigslist. I haven't found anything yet. There is a lot I have to learn about this bike. I saw some one put grab handles on...Is that for the rear passenger? Also the fender eliminator...is that just a cosmetic thing? Just getting into the sport bike world, so my questions may seem pretty basic, but I am just trying to educate myself a little.

welcome miles congrats on the new ride. I agree with rook on the exhaust i spent $600 on slip-on only to spend another $2000 on a full exhaust 6 months later lol but if slip-ons is what you want check out the 4 sale sect on this forum, I think theres some 4 sale there

I thought the same thing when I saw those. They could be used as passenger grab handles but they are really for lifting the bike onto stands or a trailer or anything like that. They would be behind the passenger's heels. Would not seem to be the safest place to hold on. They do look cool if you are going to keep the passenger pegs on. Weighed mine last night. 1.5 lbs each, bracket and peg with bolts.

Also the fender eliminator...is that just a cosmetic thing?

Pretty much but it does weigh close to 2 lbs. Weighed that last night too.
