installing hids...need help
04/13/12 3:41 PM

i have the ddm 55w high and low hids. I have both low beams connected right to the bikes harness WITHOUT using a relay and both lights fire right up each and everytime i start the bike, no flickering and stay on

Im trying to use a relay but the right side headlight is giving me issues when using the relay. Left side fires up right away and stays on while using the relay. The right side does one of 2 things. Starts right up but goes out within 2 seconds or doesnt come on at all.

What gives? Bad relay?

I swapped the wires from the relay from left to right and the other side is giving me problems. Starting up but dying or not coming on at all

I tried the second relay i had and its doing the same thing. I guess im going with NO relays for this kit :(

Im thinking the relay may have to be rewired but i have no idea where to start

Hi bentz... welcome to the forum! I have 35W ddm for my lows... kept the stock highs.

Im getting a little lost when you use the term "relay". I know what a relay is... its just that i was under the impression
that the stock wiring was strong enough to handle the initial current draw without the need of an extraneous switching
device. Perhaps when you say relay you mean ballast?

the relay he's speaking of is just a harness that connects directly to the battery the highs draw more power on my bike they worked fine for a few months then i started having trouble with my highs not coming on 1 would 1 wouldn't so thats when i ran the relay harness to the highs and no trouble since

I wonder if a voltage drop on the high beam circuit is causing one to work and one not. You would figure a relay from the lamps directly
to the battery would be sufficient. Which in your case Scottty it is.

I honestly have no idea what was/is going on. I didnt use the relay harness for either high or lows and both work fine right now. Lows fire right up upon startup and highs come on without delay while the bike is running

I would like to use these harnesses in the future but right now i dont know how to fix it

With the lows AND highs on while idling, the voltage goes down to 12.6.

With just the lows on while idling, voltage is 14.0
