Im almost scared to ride now. A close friend and i was out on a little ride Saturday both of us was on busas going the speed limit and all off a sudden some guy ran a stop sign and hit my friend...he died in the hospital and it really had me shook up. i really love bikes but after that im somewhat scared. I thought about selling the bike and buying a chevelle or something....anybody else experienced anything like this?

Sorry to hear about it, man! Thats a terrible thing to experience. Don't worry about motorcycling, it will come back to you if its meant to be. Worry about taking care of yourself.

That is about some sad shit. I fell for ya, guy. My second bike, I had some novice lead. He was a high school buddy. Figured he and his girlfriend were doing OK. All of a sudden, I witnessed two rag dolls flopping their limbs in the air. Someone turned left in front of them. He never rode a bike again.

We are in the pits and Ontario raceway had professional bathrooms, where you could take a shower after a race day. Guy in 750gp two-stroke, like the Kenny Roberts kind of size gp bikes? All I remember about that infield shower room, was how happy he turned pro and was going to hit the national trail and all that. He hits turn one at Ontario and dies.

YOu and that bike do not know what is going to happen next. Within yards from one semi truck to the SUV, both aiming for a lane change, pushed me out of one lane to the next. You know how that feels?

It could have been you. Take what life sends your way. Your buddy had his time. Okay, it was short. YOu have the rest of your life and WOT are the odds you never get involved with anything, you walk away and will never know. I do not fear death. I fear losing the love of bike more.

Not had a bro die Ischevy ! but did this to my self June 14 2010IMO I can say most of us accept riding is more dangerous than a Cage for sure ! but it,s the rush ? clean air ? freedom ? free spirit ? why most ride in the first place! I feel sadened for what you saw mate chin up! as I not want to sound nasty , but life goes on for the living, although your mate didn't see his death coming do you think he would wish for ya to still be riding , or just keep riding with a patch or something similar to remember & Honour him to cellebrate all the great things he liked about riding Bikes / Social Outtings / Meals / great Fresh Scenery all in all to live and get the most of the short stay of life we all have on this planet Ps. Just last Sunday after 15 months off my first real feel of freedom

No death experience. I cannot even imagine what it must be like for you. I was hit by a driver running a stoplight in 2003. I spent a week or so in the ICU, and another couple between the "normal" ward and rehab. I wanted nothing to do with bikes. For about 4 months. Once I was out of the wheelchair, I started thinking about riding again.

The "moral" here is that if it's really something you want to do, you will. If not, then so be it. I am in the Hub group, when it's my time, it's my time. Want to live every minute of it to the fullest. I still think about that night sometimes when I cross the intersection it happened at. Was the last assumption I made on a bike. That the driver stopped at red light would stay that way.

Nothing can be said to help you deal with this. Just know you learn to deal with it. Don't stress yourself out over riding. Take it one day at a time.

Sorry to hear about your friend chevy. May he rest in peace. My prayers go out for him and his family. As for yourself, take your time. Trust in God to set you on the right path for you. If you are meant to ride, you will find your way back to it. No need to rush or question yourself about it...

Two buddies in one Month hit from behind. 3 weeks ago my good friend and co-worker Gary got hit on the ramp of our 407 highway. He was parked waiting for light to change, when it did he started to proceed and Boom. Car hit him from behind. His hand popped off the clutch and throttle pulled wide open on his zx14. He took off into a concrete divider. Broken Ribs, punctured lungs, Spleeen Liver, kidneys. Almost died 3 times from blood klots. Now has screens in his chest to help Filter his blood. Still not back to work and we don't know when, but he is alive.

This past Saturday My Friend Dave got hit from behind while at a light while Riding his New Harley Rocker C. Dave is currently in Hospitial fighting for his life. From what we were told the car was going fast enough to put him through the front window and inside the car. To many things wrong to list. He is in bad shape. Blood pressure is to low to work on the problems. Fingers Crossed.

I thought about selling the bike and buying a chevelle or something....

I can't imagine how you feeling right now but in all the above cases the events which took place were not in the control of the bike rider. You could be in the wrong place at the wrong time while walking. Give it some time before making a decesions.

Sorry for your loss

Guys play safe.

Very sorry to hear of your fallen friend. You have every reason to revisit your choices, and weigh benefit vs risk.

I lost my best friend in 1980 on a bike I had sold him. Too many of us have had brushes with this kind of experience.

My riding style and choices have changed radically from when I was younger. I get out of town and away from the cages as quickly as possible, and seek out the much less traveled "Farm to Market" 2 lane here in TX. They hold their own perils, without a doubt, but I always dread re-entry into the city. (Dallas/Ft Worth) Too many distractions for drivers today, like cell phones/texting, and just too many cars. We're very small visual targets in that sea of confusion. I own 4 motorcyles, so, my choice is obvious. I do the best I can at managing risk, and understand the rest is up to the fates.

Once again, condolences for the loss of your friend, and best of luck to you in whatever you decide for your future.

what a incredible shock, take care of yourself and time will sort out if you want to keep riding. I'm sure you will be lots of different emotions. I'm sorry for your friend.

So sorry to hear about your friend. Has a massive effect when you see it happen right in front of you too.
Can understand the thought process. I totaled a full size Dodge van with a Nighthawk 750 and my body back in '03, didn't ride on the street for over a year after, but it called me back.
Everyone has to make their own decisions in these cases. But if you decide to leave the street, you don't necessarily have to stop riding all together. There's always the track, and I know several guys that have switched to dirt bikes because of the dangers of the street.

'07 Hayabusa presently.. mostly stock, few comfort mods.. fixed. As Willie says, "On The Road Again"..
'04 KDX 200 dirt bike, that I manage to hurt myself with on a regular basis

If you get back on that bike, it is one decision after the other. I was working heavy traffic. Van pulls over on me. I'm out of his blind spot? I squirt up and pass him. I think he was on the phone? Could not tell. Would not bother to look with all that stop and go up ahead.

Did it bother me? Was some blonde in a MB coupe about too close for comfort; I felt like taking my foot off the peg and kick a hoof back like a horse; get that cunt farther back bitch! Remember the fun you'll be missing. Remember all those, 'it happened,' go and ask your, 'why did it happen' and the final is to, 'accept it.'

Not your fault. Not your time. Time heals all wounds... is somewhat true, they say.

Want you to know that your post caused some re-evaluation of my own. I'm guilty of riding w/too little protective gear, especially in hot weather, and all my bike jackets are black.

Your driver ran a stop sign, so he was going to broadside anything in the intersection... (Good chance a cell phone was involved as in HUB's example. Those things are the bane of everyone on the road.) Your friend happened to be in the wrong place, wrong time. But we should do everything we can to give ourselves the best shot to be seen, and up our chances of survival if we go down.

I really like black 14's, but have 2 other black bikes, and thought red would be more visable, so that's what I bought this time around. Because of this thread, started yesterday to shop for armored leather race jackets with as much red as possibe. (My helmet is red as well) Also shopping armored pants that zip to the jacket. I've been riding for 42 years, and I've never been down. I see that as the laws of probablity stacking up against me, not something to brag or be over confident about. Had some very, very close calls, but riding is just something I've got to do, for as long as I can..

Very true that so many factors can be out of our control, but your sharing of this sad event made me think a bit harder about the risks I can mitigate.. Thanks.

Sorry for your loss. First time I saw someone killed I was about 13.. Going across street to movies, he froze then started running... A little too slow unfortunately, he became the ragdoll that never woke again. Not fun but that's when I changed my perspective on allot of things. It sucks to lose friends on bikes... I am 43 now and have lost several people I know on bikes. Bottom line is no matter what we do, we are going to die anyway. No one has figured out how to cheat death, so live your life no regrets and do what you want. Fast forward 100 years, none of this really matters does it?
