Call of the Wild
02/08/14 5:35 AM

Boosted Bikes, slung tight and low, slick tires, spray bottle glow
For all you gents and kings of speed, a thread I post to build our scene
Who are you and what do you ride, secrets told and speed defined

Pray share you wild secrets and stories here, read them we will to a pint of beer
Let not the snow thaw you out, nefarious soul full of clout
Purveyors of terror on the street, rip and burn, stunts so obscene
I warn Toronto, soon we hit the streets, skates away, slicks on police deceit
A call to arms and stories spun, share your moments let's salivate and share some fun
Answer you must this battle drum, don't hide from who you arm faithful followers of the 14r

Hear me howlin from over here, don't despair summer is nearly here!

Ahhhhhhoooooooooo!

I'm with Rook. I am seriously going to try to get in a couple of track days this summer. Ever since I retired from racing I have this itch to get back out there.Gonna have to keep saving the ole pennies.

Heck yeah Rook! Love the track days Big time! I've done plenty in my cars but they don't compare to a track day on the bike. After the last few days at the track I was scraping the fairings and pipe and rear sets even with after market pegs I figured I had better buy a track/commuter bike and save my baby the abuse. Lol

haha, thanks. I was pretty amazed too. I had no idea. It really is a pretty natural thing to happen under track conditions on a nice warm day. I never could do that on the street and that is exactly why track riding is a whole different experience.

I scraped my pipe. Pegs?? NOT YET!. Now that is cornering.

Rook the only problem was the fairing and after market pipe were ok but when I scraped the Sato rear set peg it grabbed the peg and took the weight off the rear tire and the back end slid out about 12"..... Scared the shit outta me! Lol that when I realized I need to was going a little faster that I should be on my good old girl....but man was It great to beat the crap outta the litter guys that I was running with. Lol

I remember you sharing that with us Somefun. That would be a wakeup call for sure. Touching hard parts on a 14 is worthy of the highest props

I don't mess much with street racing anymore but I remember all the cars that got lost in a mass of headlights on summer nights. I used to love that. To risky for me now. I realized the police do notice motorcycles and they do write tickets if bike stop.

..but two of my best memories were street racing stories. I told them a few times but we have a lot of new members. I believe it was the same summer about 2010. I rode fast all the time. I cruised the expressway at 90-100 mph all the time. Was stopped by cops a few times. No tickets. Well I pulled astride a little silver Corvette on evening. I knew he wanted to race. The expressway was packed and there was nowhere to break through the cars ahead. All 3 lanes ahead were full. I swerved back and forth behind the granny in front of me. I'm sure I scared the crap out of her. She moved up and pulled to the right. There was the escape hatch. I went for it. Granny got a quick thrill catching a glimpse of the old Rooksters butt fly by at about 80mph. I pulled to the right to make a space for the vette if he was still interested. OH YES, he was! He had accelerated at an impressive rate and I saw him coming up along side of me in my rearview. Dropping down on the tank, I downshifted and tore it open. The 14 leapt out in front of the vette as I took it up to 130 skirting the 4 foot high divider median. Laying flat on the tank the whole time I never saw over the median to the southbound side. It was a short distance later where the median wall became about a foot lower giving me a clear view of what was happening over there. The spinning blue and red lights on the other side caught my attention. There was a cop parked on the opposite side. I saw his car jerk forward and stop tentatively. He knew what he wanted but there was nowhere to go get it. Wrong side of the road for him. No way he can jump that cement wall. I cut back on the throttle a little as I passed. The vette pulled up alongside me and I guess we both decided there were better things to do than stop and wait to see what would happen. Comntinued rolling at about 110 about a mile down and took an exit. He went one way I went the other. I was a nervous wreck....in a good way.

Hey Rook I did the same thing on a uncrowded expressway in N.C. ran into a z06 on a four lane and played cat and mouse for a mile or so just to see if he had the balls to actually punch it, so he lined up with me after he got his confidence up thinkin he could keep up, downshift to 3rd watched him down shift through the window gave him the nod and launched that fucker into hyperspace!!!! By the time I let out I had time to pull over, cut the bike off, and wave at him going by! What a F'ing thrill!!

That's awesome. Yes the occasional street race once made for great riding memories but I have gotten a lot more wary after getting a big speeding ticket (i think it was that same year in the Fall). Last summer I had to just let a white Porche get away without much competition. He had his spoiler up and was moving pretty quick. Damn, it was Sunday morning and there was plenty of room on the expressway. We went up to about 130 again but I don't have the kind of nerve I had a few years back. The last thing I want to be is the guy out in front doing triple digits where I know cops can be watching. So I watched him speed away and he picked up more speed after he saw I gave up. That really hurt to see him slip away like that.

Im with you on that gotta take the more "mature" decision but it kinda eats at a bit to let one go you could have smoked, I would have liked to see his little wing tucked between his tires though.

Its an internal battle between rational mature thinking ( a ticket can be the gift that *keeps on giving*), and that inner competitiveness and pride that wants to show anyone and everyone on the road just what the bike can do with a stretch of highway.

Great photos and I'll bet you "burned" $100 worth of rubber off that rear tire! But it sure looks like it was a fun time.
