1st Biker dies already in Minnesota
03/15/14 1:59 AM

We have already had one biker die in a accident this year in Minnesota. He was from New York doing around 100mph on one of our major roads and hit a pothole and was killed. There is so much sand, salt, ice and debree on the roads it is not safe riding yet. And the potholes * cracks are all over and HUGE. I understand the reasons to want to ride after one of the coldest and winter storms but the roads are not safe. Anybody else seeing this in there area?

Two have died around here in the last week. One hit the back of a tow truck and the other ran into the back of an 18-wheeler. Nothing in the reports about the circumstances. Also a couple on a bike hit a deer and went down. Both were airlifted to a hospital. No further word on their conditions. Any warm day will see tons of bikes on the roads around this area. I've rode three times this calender year and each time the pavement is a little cleaner, but a couple of hard rains would really help.

What a ding dong. It was below freezing that night too. Figured he had to of been scooting along, I only heard a small snippet on the news about it the next morning.

Our winter sucked, too. But, I haven't seen any out of the ordinary potholes.

My rule of thumb is stay away from the edges of the streets, where the snowmelt gathers. It melts in the daytime and collects there. When it freezes overnight, that's what cracks the pavement. Close to the curbs is where the big holes live.

As nice as it was yesterday, I would not have gone out on the bike yet. Too bad this has to happen every year.

A couple a week, all year long :(

It's not "old man winter" that gets'em here. It's "old lady driver", and the "young distracted driver" that works their steering arm.

The *warm* weather bring them out around here, of course.

Potholes are worse than normal in this area at least. They are my biggest concern. Roads really got shredded this winter.

Just saw this, so it's not just about winter leftover hazards. Let's be careful out there:

Yeah no deaths yet here in philly but the streets are littered with poles and sink holes and the ground is definitely still cold. Im still breaking Madonna in so no excess speed me for at least for the next few hundred miles. By the time she is broke in hopefully the streets will be alot better and warmer.
