I sold my 1994 zx9r about 3 years ago. I owned that bike for about 10 years. I loved it! The day I sold it was a sad one, and I have wished I had held onto it even if for nothing more than a garage queen. Well... I just found out that it is for sale! Thing is... I have a zx14 and a zx10r in the garage already. If I buy back my old bike, I will barely, if ever ride it...

I don't know what to do... HELP!

BTW... the price is less than 50% of what I put into the motor work alone when I owned it... it's BAD... but antiquated when compared to a zx14 and/or zx10r.

doesn't sound like something I would do even if I had a long lost beloved motorcycle out there. However, sounds like you would probably be happy to have your prized possession back and wished you never let it go. Chances like these don't come along very often. You could look at it as an opportunity to own something very special for a low price instead of paying twice. Go ahead. Add on to the garage some day.

They all had their own personality. More than one I would like back. Especially my 05 ZX10 that some rotten f@#$ stole.

The CBR900 that was mangled would be nice to have back also. One of the best riding bike I have owned.

Dude, my eyes welled up a bit when I saw it... Now if I could just track down my old 1980 Hona 50.

Chances like these don't come along very often.

Especially not just a couple weeks from your B-day, huh?

Go ahead.

That's what my woman says, too... Actually, her words were "Why are you even asking? I fell in love with you on the back of that bike."

Add on to the garage some day.

I've got the room for a few more before I have to worry about that.

Oh so true... and that '05 10r had more "personality" than most, didn't it? My '05 is one evil machine!
Bike theives should be hung by their eyelids and hit in the bag until they blink! (that one is for you, Romans )
Pretty miraculous, really, that I never mangled the 9r... I owned it through my twenties and did some seriously stupid shit on it. It does, however, still have the dent in the tank from when I did about the most wicked impression of Superman you could ever hope to see.

I get attached to my bikes so I'd rather keep them all for sentimental reasons as well as keep the ZX.

I sold my Kawasaki H2 Mach IV 2-stroke triple before I left Huntsville AL and I've regretted it ever since.

If I had the chance to buy it back, I'd take it home and never let it go again.

Same here Privateer, I always regretted selling my '74 H2.
It was the first street bike I bought at age 17.
I went from a CB360 my brother gave me to the H2, wow was that a difference.
Even though the H2 didn't like to turn or stop, it went like hell.
It had stinger pipes, solo seat, drag bars, K&N's, all black paint (had to repaint it after I flipped it over)....oh now I'm reminiscing

I've always been very attached to my bikes and never want to sell anything for fear of missing it. But truthfully, once it's gone I wonder what my problem was. Some of the things I was most attached to were royal pains in my ass and sucked the life outa me. I wouldn't want anything back because it's no longer the same bike after some one has had it long enough. Then there's also the fact that I've always traded up so they would all suck compared to what I have now. It'd just sit and I'd always have this nagging feeling like I should do something with it but it would never happen. We already have a bike like that. It's the GS750ES the wife had when we met. She doesn't want to sell it because of sentimental reasons and every time I look at it I want to fix it up but there's never any time. Wish I didn't even have to think about it to tell you the truth, lol. Sometimes, the memory is worth more than the bike ever was.

Mine was pristine restored, 100% OEM stock, and the Kawasaki service guy loved tuning it - said he actually got to tune something when I brought it in.

Yes, it went like a scared jackrabbit, but needed an international runway length of pavement to stop, and tried to throw me off every time I went around a corner at more than 20mph.

Of course, my first bike I actually held title to was an H1, so I already knew how to survive bad brakes and a spindly frame that was more a spring than it was a frame.

Those were the days. The H2 was bone stock, like I said, 100% Kawasaki parts, but the H1 I had stripped to the frame (omg, it took like... 3 hours including marking and cataloging) and welded in a bunch of gussets and struts, as well as beefing up the swingarm mount and the swingarm itself. So at least it didn't try to buck me off in the corners.

I've regretted every time I sold a bike, even thought I always seem to trade up. But Boobs has some good points too.
I've always dreamed of having a garage full of bikes, whether I rode them much or not. Of course, in that dream, there is always time to keep them up. I know that these days, I couldn't do that. Tough question. I guess the real question is, can you afford to buy it and it now put you in a bind? If you can, do it!

I had five at one time and it was stupid. Too much work. Not enough fun. :) I say put it all into one great bike instead of many average bikes.

Looks like you guys are split about 50/50... interesting.

Edge, you make some very good points... all of which I have considered... but I gotta tell ya, this 9r (to me) is what those smokers are/were to Priv and Cycle. This bike broke me. Dumped more $$$ into it than I ever should have. Went through times when I couldn't afford to eat because I had pay to get it outta the shop. I sold it when I was (at the time) more into riding dirt than pavement. I'd only put 1500 miles on it in the 3 years prior to selling it... I'd just bought current home, was a bit strapped for cash, and just could no longer justify owning a "toy" that was not being used... 6 months after I sold it my finances were back on track, I bought a 2006 zx14, and I "rediscovered" my love for tearing up the paved mountain twisties.

Tough question. I guess the real question is, can you afford to buy it and it now put you in a bind? If you can, do it!

Yes, I can... and... I just may... headed out the door right now to go "look" at it.

My first bike was a Honda CB175 (I think) I would not want it back, I thought the post was about a sold ZX14 you had the chance to buy back. That I would do in a heartbeat. It sounds to me like this bike means a lot to you. The only vehicle I would buy back would be my 1070 Mercury Cougar. Impracticle, but for sentimental reasons, if it were available for me to buy it back, I would do it without question. My vote, DO IT! Get it back.

i voted no ..i've only owned around 300 bikes .. but there was 1 that i wish i never sold back in the 1980's .. collectors have gone nuttz with them .. but back then they was junk ..

the only other bike i miss

the cool factor and the rumble of a 6to1 exhaust is beyond anything ever made of motorcycle .. i'm been looking for 1 for a while again

For:
1. Has to be pristine ~ Everything works.
2. Never dropped ~ #1 seller are no damaged parts needing replacing.
3. All there ~ Because if something is not bought now, still available, it will be a pain down the road.
4. Drained carbs ~ It's now a garage queen.
5. Drained tank ~ It's queened.
6. Battery disposed of.
7. It's my bike, my memories.
8. Bike is not worth a dime to a collector.
9. You sit on this bike and cherish those memories.
10. You cover it all with ATF from the fork tubes on back. Then find a corner.

Against:
1. What was I thinking!
2. It's here and it needs a lot of work.
3. It's home now. I'll get to it later.
4. Years go by and you never drained the gas.
5. Never prep'd it for the queen's thrown.
6. Should have thrown it away long ago.
7. I'm tired of looking at it.
8. I got a little older and forget the days we had together.
9. Shit, no punk even wants to chop it. Scooters are the rage.
10. I think I'll call cash for clunkers and just write it off; what was I thinking!

All I have now is my 14 and my KTM 300. I definately want some sort of large dual sport type soon, but I really think I would put a lot of seat time on it as well. Other than that, it's probably not in my best interest to have a bunch of bikes that I would hardly ever ride.

Dogo says:

I sold it when I was (at the time) more into riding dirt than pavement.

Does anyone else see anything mentally deviant about this statement? Dirt bikes are just toys, sport bikes are Man-toys! haha

Very cool to hear you guys talk about your old machines. A 1994 zx9r will never be a classic or have the "cool factor" like some of the bikes mentioned... But it's MY bike dammit... and I brought the sumbitch back home!

Musta been meant to be for me to just happen upon it, right?

Edge is correct though... It's not the "same" as it was when I let it go... but it's home now, and I'll have her fixed back up in no time.

Dogo....that is your old bike?VERY NICE!Wish I could get MY old bike....my beloved zx12(traded in for my lovely 14).ONLY because some pricks stole her outta the showroom...she was found 6 months later...sitting OUTSIDE behind a shed...sat there ALL winter. When I had er...she was immaculate. When they found her....only good for "scrap".Geez.What's really messed up about that deal...other than what it was....is they didn't even use it for parts or anything.Just parked it outside...and left it.

It might be fun to switch off once in a while...if I still had her. That bike was my first real sportbike.Had a lot of good times owning her.Hauled azz...flat out fast.Cornered wonderfully.But...she weren't no 14.I could never get rid of my bluebird.

Shit... You've had one stolen also, Blue?... Gotta be the worse feelin' in the world! Don't know what I'd do... It wouldn't be good though. ... Laid a guy out just for giving me "lip" when I told him to "get off my bike" after I walked out of the bar and he was sittin' in the saddle of that 9r playing jockey... Like I said, I owned it in my twenties. ... Then again, I might just react the same way 10 yrs later.

Yes, that is of my old... er NEW... 9r!
Needs some TLC... Valve cover and clutch slave are leaking, been tipped over on BOTH sides, someone who failed coloring in kindergarden tried to give the swingarm a "machined look", and some unscrupulous asshole rolled back the mileage and tore the maintenance log outta the back of the owners manual to cover his tracks. ... but the thing is still as comfortable as I remember... and is an absolute fucking beast on the top end!... but stopping the thing with those brakes (after riding a zx14) will make your butt pucker.

My woman snapped a pic of me stuck at a light on the way home.
