Which bike 2007 or 2008
10/15/10 6:22 PM

I can buy a 2008 with 2500 miles all stock for 8K or a 2007 with Muzzy exhaust, Power Commander, lowered, windscreen, among other things with 4400 miles for 6K maybe. The story is both bikes have been taken great care of. The 08 is silver which I am not too excited about and the 07 is black which I don't really care for either. I would like an Orange and Black low mileage 2008. Anyway is there a big difference between the two?

The 07 black with flies out will be just as strong or stronger (especially low down) than the 08 stock for stock. Plus the 07 comes with a muzzy exhaust, power commander, windscreen, lowered etc? The pipe and pc will make it much quicker than the stock 08, plus its 2 grand cheaper and already modded for you.........and its BLACK! What are you waiting for? lol

I'm not a big fan of buying someone else's project when you don't know if the work was done right... Sooo, I would take the stock 2008 BUT, unfortunately, you are over paying if you pay 8 grand for it. You can find "New" 08's on ebay for about 8k. At the same time I agree 100% with Romans and Bad about the black bike...Damn sexy!

Also, the orange and black bike is the 2009 SE.

There isn't a dealer that would sell the S1000RR for that price. That would be the valued wholesale price so basically this is the price your bike would be worth if you traded it in. Then the dealer would retail it for probably 12K or whatever he could get. Again I was only showing how the bike depreciates after purchase...That's all. I assume the ZX 14 would be close to the same. I just don't want to pay 16K plus OTD and then have a bike worth 8-9K trade in value. If you will be keeping the BMW for several years then it would be worth the MSRP and you could ride your money out of it.

There is a frame recall if I remember correctly on all 2006-2007 models
I would want proof that the bike was in compliance with this recall.
I purchased a new left over 08 zx14 this spring for $8695
Just for your info I am really enjoying the zx

Chazz. Got a midnight Sapphire blue 08. 25K trouble free miles, Tsukigi full race exhaust, PCV, Auto Tune, Dynojet LCD, flies out , blocked PAIR, BMC race air filter (Never installed in bike but I go itstill in plastic), vinyl stripes. Comes with stock exhaust and a Pitbull stand. Bike can totally be converted back to stock. Never crashed, kept meticulously clean and garaged all year round. Brand new tires going on next week. Can use a new drive chain but stock is still within service limit. Was thinking 6K$. PM if you want to talk about it.

I wouldn't by either bike if they made me say "I'm not too excited about or I really don't care much for it".
Unless you're buying something strictly for utility uses such as get you to work and back, why wouldn't you wait, save up, and get what WILL make you excited about owning and feeling good about when you look at it?
As for differences, the frame issue on the '07 could be the biggest thing. I've heard the '07 is a bit better performing but that's based on past posts I've read. Personally, I'd rather set up the bike from stock myself and not wonder if things have been done right.

The frame is the same in all bikes. 2006 - 2007 years, a few had the BOLTS over torqued. Please don't think the frame is Diff in the 2008-2011. They are All the same. Please post if you heard the 08s and up had a new frame.

Heard the G2 frame was better. I think it was cast differently -something like that. Anyway, haven't ever heard of a G2 frame cracking and no G1s either since the G1s were recalled.

Please post if you heard the 08s and up had a new frame.

I've heard there is a different casting process on the '08 and up frames.

The frame issue on the '06 and '07 was not a big deal in any case, very few had cracks and it takes less than 30 minutes for a competent dealer to check it.

I've ridden them back to back and an '06/'07 with flies out and a good map has more steam than a stock '08 down low but the '08 is definitely stronger down low than the '06/'07 if you compare stock for stock. On top end, '06/'07s tend to put out a few more HP on the dyno, chalk this up to rich stock mapping on the '08s to keep the catalysts cool.

Removing flies on an '08 doesn't do much for the low end as the stock fly opening rate is much more agresssive than on the older bikes.

The '06/'07 respond well to just slipons, the catalysts were in the end canisters and the headers are very good. You'll get almost as much power on an '06/'07 with a slipon as you would with a full system with better low end.

The '08s have the catalysts in the mid pipe so slipons don't add as much. Better to go with a full system on the '08.

Something to think about the insurance on an 08 is higher than an 06-07. Don't ask me why becuse no agent has been able to tell me why. Check with you agent to see what he or she says

Romans, maybe I was too brief when I mentioned "the '07 frame issue is the biggest difference". I shouldn't assume everyone is aware of the frame issue on the first two years. I meant it as a potential problem (however small)that could effect his buying decision.
The frames are the same design but they are not MADE the same way. Without looking up the correct terminology Kawasaki uses in their '08 ads, I forget the procedure how they changed from '07 to '08.
So I didn't mean to say the frames were different, only that the '08 and newer models are reportedly stronger because of a different method of making it.

Same frame, the torque on the swing arm nuts is what was in question. They could have been over torqued at the factory causing cracks. I think very few problems were ever found considering the amount of bikes that were sold. I remember when I got the notice it was like STOP RIDING YOUR BIKE YOU COULD DIE! I was not worried about the bike at all It was the dildos at the dealer that were doing the inspection that had me going. They left parts loose and I even found bolts missing when I got it home. I had a meeting with the service manager and the owner and ripped them new ass holes. They said they would give me free oil changes for a year. Ya right like I was going to let them touch my bike. Its more like, DON'T TAKE YOUR BIKE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE YOU COULD DIE! I still dont think the Insp. was done right. If that sum bitch comes apart on me and I'm still alive you will be looking at the new president of the company.

Yeah. I checked my own frame and re-torqued as they suggested.
I never did get a notice. To this day, if I hadn't been a member here I'd never know. THAT pisses me off.

Buy the 07 and use the 2 grand to customize the paint. If you decide the black is good (black is timeless,) then you have 2 grand to buy your girlfriend a Honda.
