Are you talking about the main fender that holds all the stuff under the seat? Yes. there are some bolts that may take a special tool to reach back there if you are trying to keep the sides on. Don't quote me. You can loophole some things. Not much help answering.

Once you take the little plastic toolbox out you should be able to get to all three bolts. No special tools, I think they are 8mm nuts,

I agree with heathum, it's a 5-7 minute job at most.

Ok I will try again I took off the tool box but I still could not get to the center bolt I will attempt to shift the ECU to the side and see whats under it. I just bought my 14 and cant wait to take the back fender off.

Here's just some of the things the SM tells you you must remove to take off the mud flap:

Flap and Rear Fender Removal •Remove:
Seat (see Seat Removal)
Seat Covers (see Seat Cover Removal)
Fuel Tank (see Fuel Tank Removal in the Fuel System
(DFI) chapter)
Tool Kit Case [A] (see ECU Removal in the Fuel System
(DFI) chapter)
Relay Box [B] (see Relay Box Removal in the Electrical
System chapter)
ECU (see ECU Removal in the Fuel System (DFI) chapter)
Rear Wheel (see Rear Wheel Removal in the
Wheels/Tires chapter)
Fuse Box [C]
Bolts [D] and Cover [E]
Seat Lock
Bolts [F]
Screws [G]

I don't think they want us to take off the mud flap.

I see the two front bolts under the tool kit case but the third is way back in there under the ECU, I think.

I think we need a How-Too

Just removed my rear guard Mike and like Heathun says it's very easy.
Remove seat, remove tool box (4 hex screws), then there is a relay unit that simply lifts up (pulls out) - its held in place by its rubber frame sliding over plastic mounting posts each side. Removing that exposes all 3 fender bolts for easy removal.

I wanted to permanently remove the tool case but I wasn't sure if that little black relay box came off of it. It is mounted onto a bracket which is molded into the tool kit case. I guess you could reinstall the toolbox after taking off the fender. Thanks for info, hercsz.

Now I'm drifting slightly off topic here....but The instructions for installing Autotune call for the module to be connected to a "switched 12v source." They recommend the power to the tail light but I don't know what wire that is and I would rather not tap into it if I don't have to.

Can anyone tell me if that wire that goes to the lic plat lamp is a switched 12v source?? <<Sure would be awfully convenient since my Autotune will be installed under the seat.

Just took mine off. You need to take the ECU and fuse box out to get at the nut on the back bolt. If you don't want to cut the wire to the tag light, you have to take stuff apart. I will putting up a How-To some day.

I didn't remove my ECU or fuse box when I removed my fender. All I removed was the plastic tool box and unplugged the tail light and removed the fender took me less than 30 minutes.

^^You were fortunate that the nut located under the ECU stuck. It is not welded. Mine turned with the bolt head under the fender when I tried to remove it so I had to get a wrench on the nut and the bolt at the same time in order to sepparate them. The nut and the washer under the ECU can only be retrieved if the ECU is removed. If you just leave them under the ECU I guess they will vibrate around in there and eventually fall out or end up under the seat somewhere. Also, it would seem pretty difficult to pull out the wire which runs under the ECU without cutting the connector off of the wire.

Taking the ECU and fusebox out only requires pulling them out of the rubber sleaves they fit into. You don't even have to unplug them.
