UPS, Shipping, Rant
10/16/10 8:26 AM

Guys I just thought I would post this over here. It would seem that UPS has unauthorized access to our wallets. How is this legal? When that brown truck pulls up and demands money for ?????? that you did not agree to, what do you do ? Once the guy is standing there and he has what you have been waiting for I have always paided, but I can assure you I'm not happy. If any one has any tips on how to avoid this or any neat little tricks around these guys please post. My position is it's stealing in a nice way. F.cking Pricks.
This is just the ones Brother and I got burned on this Month or week.

My Rant from other thread.

Same, I just don't know how they get away with the EXTRA charges ie: I just bought a cat back exhaust system from Edelbrock. When I ordered it I paid 77 dollars for the shipping. That Fu.king brown truck pulls up and want's another 99 dollars more. I still don't how they get away with it.
As soon as I see the shipping is with UPS I look elsewhere. Must hurt sales. IMO, it's stealing. I did not agree to pay 99 dollars more. 176 for shipping who would ? Fuc.ers.

I always get burned with UPS. Brocks had piper cross filter on special last year for 50 bucks, OK, 25 for shipping, OK, It shows up and the UPS guy want's 69 dollars more. Grrrrr, 69 more fucking dollars 4 what. The filter weighed next to nothing. Schnitz Racing same. Anything from the States to Canada look out. USPS no problem. But UPS, that brown Truck, Grrrrrrrrr. Pricks. If I knew and or agreed to it thats one thing, but to show up and demand the doe, well that something completely Diff. Dems fighting words.

Ok, so can some one please explain to me why the vendors use UPS.
I can't buy from Vortex, I have to go to Flee bay, I can't buy from Brocks, Schnitz and many many others. I now spend the extra time to find someone else selling the exact same product 4 more money, but still works out cheaper for me than if UPS gets involved.

Brother just got burned today. Corbin seat price just went up, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Pricks

There must be more of us out there that this has happened to.I'm sure there must be laws against this. I'm sure my own shipping burns from these Pricks is over a 1000 Dollars.

My point is I Did Not Agree To Pay These Magic #'s That They Come Up With. I have paid Shipping to the Vendor Already, all I should be paying is the local tax. If I'm out of line Fix me up, Untill then these guys are Pricks.

Wow, that felt good

Romans,
WTF? I think this must be in the fine print some where otherwise, it would be totally illegal. To me, it qualifies as extorsion. Absolutely, Bullsh#t!!! I think you are being dry raped so hard, that for a $75.00, a 20 minute consultation fee from an attorney, could pay dividends on how to handle this situation. I will not use those SOB's to ship anything , any longer. Hopefully, you can get to the bottem of this. Good luck and keep us posted.

Guys, just stfu and look up your own country's import laws.

There are things called import duties. UPS is REQUIRED by YOUR government to collect and remit them to YOUR government.

I have to pay duties on stuff that comes from Japan and Hong Kong, but it is very small because the USA does not charge large import duties. Sometimes called tariffs.

Import laws, I imported 12 quarts of EP75W90 gear lubricant from Germany and paid $151 in brokering fees, over $12 per liter bottle in fees alone....ouch! Won't ever do that again..thank 9-11.

I too have been burned with the extra fees but it was for duty at the border, you always pay that on certain items even with NAFTA!! Even when items are sent via USPS to CPS I have paid duty at the post office... so consider that when you are buyin stuff from the States not always cheaper and the seller doesn't know what the duty will be on the item until it clears customs into Canada... its usually larger items that you have to pay the duties on from my ebay experience...

Privateer I'm not sure that was called for but it sounds like you may know allot about this sort of thing. Soooo, where does it show in our Countries Laws about hidden "Brokerage fees" that none of us agreed to pay. Don't Look, there is no such law, So they steal. They are PRICKS, The END.

Duties and Taxes we all have to pay. Living in Canada I'm no stranger to paying more for things and have always paid these custom fees and duties and never complained but this is different. Every time they show up the fee is some Magic # that only they are aware of. Lol,the Brokerage Fees on that 10 gram filter was more more than shipping and the cost to build the dame thing combined. Now that's not fair to anyone and I'm calling foul.

I would just like to know why Vendors use them. I'm sure many people refuse to pay and send the items back. Point being, what they are doing is WRONG.

And that's fine FuZZ, but what would you do if they just added a fee of 65 bucks with no explaination. Don't worry it's only UPS that does this that kind of low underhanded Crap. USPS has been fantastic and I have nothing but praise. I'm sure they are also aware of our Countries Laws but choose not to stick to the unsuspecting public. Love them guys no hidden BS.

I would look but it's not me that chooses to use them, it's the Vendors. I'm not sure they are even aware of what they are doing to their customers. Maybe they don't know or they too are getting a kick back. What ever the case I spend the extra time now to buy from anyone that does not use UPS. To Rich for this guy. Take a extra day and let me keep my hundred.

Let them take the stuff back and hope there is a shipping angel sitting on your shoulder when you try to get yur money back. The problem was with UPS. There was no shortcoming on the part of the vendor. I think you made a wise choice to get your stuff. It was obviously worth the extra cash even if it was aggravating. I would watch out for that in the future, Rom. That is not fair but now that you know, you should be able to find out what to expect when the package comes. ---hopefully.

One would think so. The problem starts when the Vendors don't tell you they will ship UPS. Shock of the Brown Truck is how you find out.

USPS just does things differently. UPS charges the recipient, and the USPS charges the shipper for the brokerage fees. Thats why some companies use UPS to save money, and others just charge you more to ship USPS. Nothing really underhanded, just an extra cost to ship to 3rd world countries like Canada.

UPS charges the recipient, and the USPS charges the shipper for the brokerage fees.

From what I have read UPS is sticking it to both parties. Edelbrock charged me 77 dollars up front and it was paid before being sent out. Then 99 dollars more at the door. How much money do these guys need to make? Don't answer that. Stupid Que.
To me it Looks like UPS makes on both ends.

A Big vendor (Tigerdirect.ca) has totally up-front shipping using UPS only from their US warehouse - they even say on their website that there are NO extra fees (to pacify the people UPS has BURNED in the past?)

Funny

Hello:
I know this is probably not something that can be done immediately, but please, PLEASE reconsider using UPS for shipments to Canada. UPS charges us "brokerage fees" which can be as high as $40-$50 on a package declared value of $200. It really, REALLY, is a very customer-unfriendly company to use for US-Canada shipments. Believe me, nothing is more frustrating than having UPS hold your shipments hostage until you pay their extortion racket. No other shipping company charges the brockerage fees, it’s only the UPS that’s so "special" (in a retarded way).
Just send it USPS or FedEx, if you must, but avoid UPS for Canadian shipments like foot fungus.

No matter how you slice it, If it's Brown it's shit and can't be trusted.

If you you at the link below I guess there are some very unhappy people out there.

Hi Romans, this was UPS. The stuff arrived at my door but the UPS delivery guy needed a check for $151 to hand over the goods. Luckily the stuff was for my company and they paid the invoice.

This just seems so illegal. I am no attorney, just a self employed contractor but, I am amazed UPS can get away with this. This is your property, that you have bought and paid for (including shipping) evidenced, by your contract, (receipt, bill of sale, etc), being held hostage, (which would appear to qualify under extorsion laws) for a ransom, which you had no decision afforded to you (agreed upon or not) during the transaction. IDK, just wrong. I feel for you guys in Canada. Total BS. This thread is great commercial on why to NOT use UPS!

I understand your anger, but it's misdirected. UPS, FEDX, and the USPS all PAY brokerage fees for any package crossing border to Canada over $50 value. ($200 coming to U.S.) UPS and FEDX charge the recipient to cover those fees. The USPS charges the shipper, which is why a lot of merchants won't use the USPS. I'm guessing the $77 you were charged up front was shipping, and the addition at delivery was for the brokerage fees. UPS does not get that money. They pay their brockerage fees with it. You might try shipping FEDX air. More expensive, but I beleive the brokerage sre included in the shipping fees. You can thank Canada, not UPS (or FEDX) for your extra fees. By the way, a lot of merchants won't use FEDX because if you refuse a package, FEDX charges the shipper for the return shipping. UPS doesn't.

alg8er, it's not up to the customer. The Vendor uses who ever he wants. I bought 4 power commanders in one month. When the UPS truck shows up and it's all about the bum, AGAIN. With USPS duties and taxes, NO HIDDEN Cost That was not Agreed to for the exact same product.

UPS is getting rich on the backs of the unsuspecting public, For sure.

alg8er you are incorrect. Yes there are tariffs, tax, and duty imposed by our government (most governments) on goods purchase internationally. However the "brokerage" fees imposed by UPS are random and quite obviously not a percentage like, duty or taxes. I have had packages show up and the UPS fees are more than the item itself. As well for all different classes of goods the UPS fees are random. Meaning if I order and exhaust one day and a different exhaust a different day the "brokerage fees" if they are a percentage based on the product purchased would be the same. USPS and other shipping companies do not charge these. As well if Fed Ex included the brokerage fees than by that rationale it would be the same price as the fees UPS charges and it is not.

Thanks Erikr, this Sheds some light on what these pricks are doing.

UPS Standard brokerage fees (approximately 10%-20% of product value)

The Not So Nice part is the 20% UPS charges is based on the total of the item, WITH the shipping you already paid, added in FIRST before there take is caclculated. So it works really nice the the unsuspecting customer. PRICKS.

So you guys pay 20% more on a 1200 pipe for example plus additional duties? WTF

I just don't see why any online store would use UPS if I have it right a customer would really pay an additional 20% total just becuse the shipper used UPS instead of Fedx. Romans if it makes you feel better when I was in High School I use to load UPS trucks during the Holiday Season. The last two days before Christmas Eve when I was 12th grade myself and some buddies got really drunk between the three of us we must have misorted half a truck. Packages that were suppose to go to Texas went Kentucky and who knows where else. good times man

Well, the #'s don't add up but just to give you a idea, this was a 50 dollar item. 15.77 for shipping on top of that. Here is what UPS fucked me for.
