Tinted Windscreen
04/06/17 4:37 PM

Hey guys,

I was thinking about trying to tint my windscreen with regular autozone window tint. my bike is blue so i was thinking of trying to get a blueish tint to match.

has anyone tried doing this before and know if it will stick and stay on at high speeds?

thanks in advance !!

Before Id do that I rummage around Ebay.

I recently bought a shield (for a zx10) on Ebay, seller was from China.

Cost me $20 including shipping and received it in like 7 days.

Was a pretty good shield too. I got a clear one, but I believe
you will find about any color you are looking for.

If I was into it, I'd get a clear, smoke, mirror and a few
different colors. Cant go wrong for $20

Check it out.

I asked the tinter I use in the past about my Blackbird's windscreen and he said no, it will not work. He is real good and has done numerous vehicles for me over the last 12 years, and only uses 3M tint, so I trust him. I had a cheap Chinese one in the past and it is worth $20 or so but IMO a Black one would look real nice and match a lot of the Black the bike.

Your OEM windscreen is not clear but has a slight tint already so that will dull the blue just a tad.

I have not tried window tint but I've heard ordinary black spray paint works fine for a total blackout. Apply the paint to the underside of the screen and it will look flawless and be protected from polishing and airborne debris. I don't see why it wouldn't hold up. I spray painted my sprocket and it looks like new after 5 years or so. Test apply it to see how concentrated the pigment is.

DO NOT get a Yanah Shiki windscreen. Cheap, pretty blue but fits like crap.

Check Niteshades spray paint, they have lots of colors. I did my rear lights in black and they turned our great.

thanks all,

I looked on ebay and amazon and found a couple for around 20 bucks. i think i might just go this route. alot easier and less work to take the current one off and put the new one on. ( if it fits right) then plus I have a spare if I ever need one.

thanks for all the info and help

Do yourself a favor and have a pack of these on hand too.

Then swapping shields is easy and only takes a couple of minutes.

$20 is a safe bet. You'll either get something that fits cheap or something that does not fit and it was not an expensive lesson. I guess I'd give it a shot if it looks like it has a recessed area to fit into the stock fairing like OEM. If it is just all one flat piece, it will look crappy.

Those fairing bolts look like the right size. M5 is the right diameter. They come with new well nuts. You probably could reuse the ones you have. They last for ever if you don't over tighten them.

Just don't get hotbodiesracing windscreen. It DOESNT have a recessed area and it looks like crap! Also it's just a little thicker which you would think that would be better but then the bottom wont fit in that little slot, so leaves a huge gap! In fighting with 58 cycle to take it back. I painted the inside of stock one and put it back on. Looks great! I had zero gravity on my 2012 and it fit perfect. Oh and it wasn't cheap! So I'm hoping they will give me my money back, I even had to send them pictures to prove how bad it fit.

BIG disappointment I know. After all the years of the 14 being out, these guys STILL can't seem to manage a correct mold for these screens.Amazing really. They must get a lot of returns. In cahoots with UPS?

Yanna Shitty. Just a flat piece of plexi heated up and bent a little. You actually have to flex it quite a bit to get it into the top fairing.

You could try some RC paint which has the added benefit of being flexible. They also make clear colors which of course are intended to be backed with a solid except. My guess if you look around you could find something like "candy red" (sprays red but clear) but blue.

I say your best bet is just going with a cheapy China, a decent Yana Shiki like Rooks, or a nice screen like Puig. Don't be afraid to experiment a little, blue blue blue blue can also be boring. Rookcs bike is a perfect example of how different colors somehow work together in an awesome manner.

When I visualize a blue 14 with gold bolt sets and a gold chrome screen I see something really cool in my mind.

This is a month old but someone mentioned trying VHT NiteShade.

I just made a post about this stuff in the "accessories" category, but be CAREFUL using it. I did my brake light this weekend and it turned out great. However the same spray absolutely RUINED my turn signal covers. Not sure how it would do on a windscreen.

With all of the affordable choices available for tinted windscreens I would not try it.

What happened to the turn signal lens? I can't see why it would make any difference on turn signals or tail light.

There is a removable product by Plastidip.

I just ordered a new smoked windshield off eBay for $13. Had a minor drop (first in 15 years) in the garage and the big ninja hit my Vulcan Nomad on the way down. Ordered a new upper fairing to go with the windshield as that suffered as well. Thank goodness for the frame sliders. Did what they were supposed to do.

I did my rear turn signal lights along with my tail light w/ nightshade and both turned out fine, what happened to ruin it? I may have a pair of clear stocker turn lights left over from my '06 somewhere if you want them?

...could have been atmospheric conditions. I have learned you don't spray outside after 5 pm (give or take). When the temp drops, you get dew..even if you can't see it. Dew in the air you spray through and on the part. Also, I got some weird repelling effect in a couple spots when I painted immediately after prepping with denatured alcohol. Thought that would dry up all the water from the prewash but maybe not.
