Below 3000 rpm is the weakest part of powerband. Inline 4s never had a great rep for awesome low end power. All engines benefit from at least a little spool up, even the V twins that many people seem to think have a quick low. I never hit my throttle hard right from an idle unless I feather the clutch as you say, to keep the rpm up. That is way more starting power than is necessary for street. Gassing and clutching is getting to be a drag race launch. Your bike should dust most street cages off the line without using much clutch at all.
One other thing I can telll you. The stock mapping on my G2 caused a noticable spike in power at 3500 rpm. Flies out / flies in same thing. Went to PCV with map from a tuner and the surge was still there a bit. Next switched maps to a new tuner and the lowend got smoother but the surge was not eliminated. What finally smoothed the idle through 3.5K rpm range out for me was my afterr market exhaust and Auto tune. Now, I'm satisfied. Nothing is going to give you the gobs of power the bike has over 3K but IMHO, the G2 have some power that can be extracted to smooth out that lag off of idle.
