I'm pretty sure that has been done by Hub.

Run any combo you come up with. A car has many cylinders, but only one cylinder fires. So it would be like a single muffler like a car has.

The deal with performance is very easy to understand. The theory goes, 'move something faster than previously = More HP.' So if you remove a muffler, cause the exhaust to move out faster/sooner = More performance.

Now, I'm going to close off a second muffler, will I slow down some speed out the pipe? Yes. Will it harm the performance? Only your asspucker knows for sure it's that subtle or responsive.

Well then, rip the cat out of the header if this is a Gen1 and you add some speed to the exhaust that you lost by closing off one muffler. or save the OEM parts for resale, get a full system with single mufflerand PC a/o flash and enjoy the performance enhancement in hp and weight reduction, both. That's a lot more expensive than modding the stock exhaust though.

The header has expanded to compensate for the cat as if no cat at all. Cat remains hot, thus moves air faster. So if removed, she slows down the moving air. Cat is boiling think. You turn the stove off, no more boil. You remove the cat, no more speed to help move. Think basic physicscience or your ass is handed to you, you go racing with the big boys.

One puff out the pipe, is one penultimate back in waiting for the next push out. Slow down the action. Place a sheet of paper near the end of the pipe. Watch the paper get sucked in with every pulse being pushed away = 'for every action.' do I really need a second pipe? No.

Ace me Lowe's me HoMe Depot a threaded galvanized what? 3" threaded sleeve and a pipe end cap too? The threaded pipe is screwed into the muffler side you are not going to use. The end cap is on that threaded sleeve connector to close that side. Use hose clamps to secure the end cap setup to the header. Budda-boom-budda-bing.

I'm going to mod. Do I want looks or do I want performance? I sacrifice either one I want the one I want who cares I lose or gain HP I'll never use.

OK, it has been a week. Give us an update. What brand of single muffler are you using?
What does it sound like compared to 2 mufflers?

I would think you are going to introduce turbulence in the collector when you block one side of the exit. Cut it off and weld a plate over it. Smooth the exit out.
