How is this possible...

How is this possible

So I've been watching this channel on youtube about motorcycle street racing here in my home state of Ohio.
These guys are hitting 170+ mph with cars on the highway. It is a popular channel with the host regularly showing his face along with his affiliations. How is it possible to do this and not get cops on your ass. Maybe I'm getting old, but when I see 2 bikes going all out on one lane of the highway, with cars in the next lane, my heart starts to beat differently. If a car decided to switch lanes, there would be a catastrophy. These are not kids, but middle aged men.

This guy is an ordinary newb. Gave up the H2 for an Aprilla? Oh well, he's having fun. How long has it been? Three years? His number's up. I'm sure being careful about where and when extends the shelf life. I did see one video where he got busted but it was not for 170.

One thing that probably helps is to not go flying by other traffic. Another is to sit on the roadside and watch some time how many cars go by and how many are cops. I recently did this and found it would be nearly impossible for me to do a 20 second speed run without passing or meeting a car on a two mile stretch. NO cops though. It's the ones you don't see that get you, not the ones you do see. Still, if you're going to do it, it probably helps to plan it out as much as you can. Most speeders aren't going to take their "criminal" activity that seriously.

Does that mean that cops cant use video evidence to indict a person going 170 mph for speeding and reckless driving? In another video, one of his buddies got rear ended by another biker and is now in traction. You are right, he cant keep this up. Just want to do this myself.

LOL---yes i have heard of at least one speeder being convicted on the video evidence he created and posted online himself. There were complaints of others that got the investigation started and a description of a bystander also provided evidence for time and place.

If you want to do it, do it where you won't be seen by anyone. This means probably not on the interstate and possibly not on those long straight stretches through the farm country either. There's enough traffic on those. 2 miles is a lot of ground to have no cars at all for 25 seconds. I feel safest on the shorter straight stretches on county roads. I can get it to 170 or maybe even 186 but doubtful I could hold it at that speed for long. Even so, I have found cars approaching from the opposite direction after I'm way over 100. They can't see you; you can't see them...unless one rounds the bend at the wrong time. It's still a numbers game. You can't beat the odds every time. You just weigh the risks.

I agree and a buddy system, where one is at the end of the run with a phone who can keep you updated before you start is even better. Unfortunately, my bike is not doing well at the moment. First, the plugs failed, now fuel pump is straining, and possibly some electrical gremlim is keeping me on the sidelines for the time being. Fortunately, I have been able to fix those problems in the past. I have AEM high flow fuel pump that I can replace the Walbro. The Walbro I fixed before be reversing the polarity and getting the gunk out.

Thanks Piken, that is pure insanity. The POV camera makes it much scarier than in real life, but still the stunts they pulled are akin to a death wish. When I was in college, me and a buddy raced on the streets, and got within a few inches of eachother. He, proceeded to sell his bike soon after, and I sold mine when a cop stopped me going the wrong way on a one way street (stupidity, not intentional). I think a plan must be made so riders dont collide, but not sure of the best way. At this stage of my life, I'm content watching these vids, and shaking my head.

To return to the question of the OP, like this...

Pick your time and your place and know what odds your up against. On a risk scale of 1-10, I'd give this an 8 because there is almost no chance of doing this without being seen by somebody (and I was). I'm not a real high risk person so this is a once every year or two event. I'd do it where there is less chance of being seen but really would prefer to spend the $$ and do it on a LSR course where I don't need to worry about riding up on somebody.

It's poker pure and simple, nothing guaranteed no where you choose to clear the throttle bodies out. Really, you just have to go out and do it. Like Rook is saying you have to kind of pick your spots and times and hope either no one is around that cares or will do anything.

I've had a change of heart in my riding. I'm not happy about it, but I think I've garnered some attention that I don't want. I have a lot of respect for law enforcement. I don't mean in any way to offend or condescend to them ever. Indiana, my county and local LEOs are great people and it shows by the rarity you hear of our officers in the news in a negative light. In fact in the last couple years our officers have made POSITIVE national headlines (how difficult is that to do these days?).

I just got back from a 90 mile ride. I realized as I pulled in the drive I never hit WOT, I don't think I even hit 50%. I know I never hit 100. I was feeling the need to be a little spirited and ran it up in 2nd gear a couple times to probably 80-90.

I know what you mean. These bikes can be riden like a moped and just look at the scenery without worries. It is nice to switch up cruising speeds, kinda like music. Way back in the 90's I use to live in Syracuse and party in Fort Wayne.

LOL--that's the Cannon!! I don't think it can be drowned out...maybe when mounted on the side at about 180. Steering stem--you'll hear it over an asteroid strike!

Do you have a radar detector?

No-------I really need one. ..although at that speed, on a 2 mile stretch, if you get the signal, you might very well not be able slow down under 150 by the time they get you in sight. Laser, your done!

my county and local LEOs are great people and it shows by the rarity you hear of our officers in the news in a negative light.

Same here. Small Mayberry-like community and close knit. I am pretty sure all the Sheriff Deps know who I am, they are just choosing not to target me or I would have gotten chased on one occassion. About four hard accelerations but just hitting 60 mph. I'm sure they had just cause to investigate that but decided not to. I don't expect the leniency to go on for ever. If others start to complain, I believe they will crack down. That's why I always try to not be seen by anyone or pass people. I was closing on an Oldsmobile in this vid and that is why I decided to roll off (plus i was messing my drawers). You might be able to see the car pulling half onto the shoulder as I come up behind them about 60 mph.

Rook, was looking at your vid again and noticed how smooth you shift. Then remembered that you have a speed shifter. Is that what you are using? Also, if you get a chance, can you take a look at my spark plug thread. My bike is a not well.

Yes that is my HM quick shifter. I never use it for 1-2 shift unless maybe lower rpm. I forgot I was already in 2nd so I clutch shifted to third but the rest were quickshifter. It's probably my fav mod. Not flawless....you do need to practice. Basically shift very quick and hard compared to clutch shifting or it will not engage the next gear. It kicks back down to the prev gear which is a bit unpleasant. I plan to convert to GP shift pattern which I am sure will make the feel much better with the quickshifter.

I think of it like this: the clutch takes ALL load off the gear box---it's like coasting in N for a few mlscs. The HM cuts ignition but the engine is still loading the gearbox----like coasting for a few mlscs in whatever gear you're in after the fuel tank ran dry. If you use the quickshifter like you do clutch shifting, you will miss shifts at higher rpm.

Also, if you get a chance, can you take a look at my spark plug thread. My bike is a not well.

Already peeked in but no info to add. I'll have a look again.
