Evap canister

Anyone know if the evap canister needs to actually be hooked up?Will it affect engine performance being 'plugged'(disconnected). My 2013 has one...in the right side midfairing. It's indicated in the manual this is for the Cali and SEA B1 models.Do I need this deal?I'm a little surprised to have it on there.

Well...I'm gonna keep it on there...connected....no harm no foul.
