Insurance - in case anyone is shopping
02/11/10 9:01 AM

At 37yrs old no accidents or tickets in past three years I just acquired the following from Allstate for $506 for a 12 Month policy:

50K/100K Bodily injury
50K Property Damage
50K/100K Uninsured/Underinsured
50K/100K Guest Liability
5K Medical
$500 deductible for Comp/Collision

By the way...I don't have any other vehicles or my house with them.

State Farm, 57 year old rider, $386/year (500/500 deductible). And they won't give me a discount for doing MSF Experienced course in 2009, lol.

Guess if I wasn't so old and didn't have 40 years of riding experience it would be more, but State Farm has good prices across the board.

Insurance is such a racket, I call in with similar stats and they want $3000 a year for full coverage. You must know someone LOL! BTW, the best insurance policy is the one you never have to use.

Yeah...I called State Farm and on the same policy they wanted over $900/year. The number I used for Allstate was 866-836-3487.

The wife sells insurance but we do not have ours with her work. I live in St. Louis, MO so insurance is not all that cheap. I live in the county but if I lived in St. Louis City the rates would probably 25% plus higher.

I pay $360 a month

06 zx14 Allstate Full Coverage 100/300/100 Limits for $340 a year in Eastern Washington. 30 yoa, no tickets or wrecks, married

Recently have been shopping until I settled on Allstate. Same insurance through State Farm was about $500/yr for the ZX14. Progressive and Geico were ridiculous at over $2k. Was going to change ALL (3 Autos, ZX14, 2 Quads, Travel Trailer, House) my insurance to State Farm, but my Allstate agent was able to get their prices down to make me stay. Probably helps that i've been with them for 10+ years.

Sounds like its between Allstate and State Farm. I know with State Farm, having two other cars on the policy helps keep the annual premium on the bike down.

As does the place you live, and how old you are. If you are under 30, one thing you can look forward to is vehicle insurance premiums going down eventually. Heh.

I would say a big thing in getting a good rate is to shop around and not be afraid to switch companies if needed. I just told my Allstate agent that I was going to switch EVERYTHING to State Farm and he found a way to get the ZX price down. He was quoting me closer to $600 a year, but I kept on him and he was able to get it cheaper. Find a good local agent, don't deal directly with the company and their customer service reps. Just my $.02 - YMMV

State Farm for everything here also, house, escalade, R1, zx14. Quads and dirtbikes with progresive though. State Farm wont cover quads or Dirt bikes in MI. I had ALL State prior and they would not insurance my R1 though they were cheaper than State Farm on Escalade they made up for it in Bike insurance. 32 no tickets and no claims around 800 credit score single. $1000 deductible for bike at $440 a year each bike roughly.

When I started with All state they were cheap at first but then went up every policy on car and house and thats why I switched to State Farm and save about 25 percent at the time. Now State Farm is raising its rates every policy. I guess they all do bait and switch.

I use to live in Tennessee and had State Farm for years. I got a few tickets and they dumped me. Once I went a year with no tickets, I got hooked up with Farm Bureau. They were dirt cheap. $450.00 a year for a Harley full coverage and I still had 3 tickets waiting to come off. They don't have them where I am now in Alabama, so I went with Alfa. They cover everything, but the bike. They don't do "Ninja's". Geico $900.00 for the ZX.

At 40, no tickets/claims $280 a year $500 ded. with State Farm in South Dakota. Credit score and lack of liberal ambulance chasers here obviously play a part. I only have the 14 insured with them, the rest of my fleet goes elsewhere as does my house.

All interesting info, but insurance rates (outside your personal info, and actual coverage)
are about zip codes and which companies currently want to grow their "toy" insurance portfolio in that area.

Ya gotta talk to local folks, guys you ride with.
You sit down in a decent sized group with similar zip codes and you'll find where to get your best deal.

On a higher level, Progressive is one of the companies currently really going after bike and boat customers.
If your just going to take a stab in the dark, I'd start there.

Like Dealer hinted at:
Don't get caught up on multi-policy discounts for your bike.
A 5% prize doesn't mean much if someone else will insure your bike for 40-80% less....
Lots of places that wnat your car and house business don't really want your bike business.
A lot of the most competitive bike insurers aren't competitive with homeowner's insurance.
It's all about what that company has decided to focus on.

Good luck!!!

Geico highest of the 3
State Farm second
Progressive had the best rates

Lets put it in layman's terms. The longer the riding season, the higher the rates. Its all about the money.

24 year old, 3 NAF accidents, a handful of tickets (although i think they are all over 3 years old now), NOT married.. Also state farm does not apply motorcycles to multi line discounts..

For: state minimum liability and $500 deductible comprehensive (i don't have collision on my policy) it runs me $95/month.

ALSO, progressive SUCKS when they handle a claim. Just letting you guys know.

On the other hand, the state farm reps handling my house claim have been superb.
