If anyone bought the extended warranty, what did you pay for it and could you get any bargains?
I received a letter from Kawasaki for the extended plans, but they are not cheap, in my mind.
TIA

A more important question would be "did anyone have any success using the extended warranty." They will still fight you if you have a problem no matter what warranty you have. The bigger the problem, the less likely you are to get any help. Little problems are not worth buying a warranty for, IMHO.

I did on another bike I had; the rear tail section had cracked because of a poor design issue. Although the part probably didn't equal the cost of the contract, I do have a bigger problem my ZX14.
It's being torn down to investigate why I'm getting metal particals out of the oil each time I change it.
The metal is getting thrown into the shifting arm under the clutch basket causing it to get stuck in gear; like in I can't change into any other gear what's so ever.
If they find the cause and fix it, I'm not to confident that this could be the last time I have a problem with this bike.

Hey Guys
When I bought my 2007 left over in 2008 the salesman told me that for $1000.00 on top of the $8000 I could get the 3 year extended warranty and I declined. About a half hour later the manager of the dealership came over to me and started asking why I did not want the extra insurance. I explained to him that I didn't want to spend the extra money on that because it was my first bike and I still needed to buy a Helmet and a Jacket and wanted to save that money for that. The manager tells me that he would throw in a Helmet and a Jacket if I would take the extended warranty so I took the deal.So he threw in a ZoX ripper helmet in blue to match the bike which I consider to be a cheapy helmet and he tried to give me a summer jacket nothing fit cause I'm a big guy. The manager ended up having to give me a Joe Rocket Sonic leather jacket because it was the only thing he had that fit proper. I sold the Helmet on ebay for $70 bucks and I absolutly love the sonic jacket. So when U add the $70 for the helmet and the cost of the Jacket which at the time was $330 added up is $400 so in my mind I got the warranty for $600.00.

Dealer wouldn't come down in price anymore on bike, so he offered 3 yr for free. Just used it to get a new tank ($800).

What gets me is how expensive the warranties are in Canada, I don't remember the exact prices, but I think it was close to $1,500 for a 4 year extended warranty... What bothers me is we can only ride for so many months up here, don't you think it should be the other way around (more expensive in areas where you can actually ride year round and rack up the miles)?

I wanted to bump this up to ask a question.
I see ebay 4 yr extended warranties for $395. I want to do my own oil changes and perhaps find my own mechanic to do the other required mx. Does anyone have any info on how Kawasaki handled any claims on the extended warranty when maintenance was not done at the dealership?
Thanks

I took advantage with that deal on e-bay for a opening bid of $355 for a 4 year extended warranty.
You have every right to perform your own oil changes, or any maintenance for that matter as long as it's been done pretty much by the book and on schedule. There is a law in the USA that clearly states that one doesn't need to have all or any maintenance perform by the dealer, so that your warranty stays intact. That would be like entrapment. Keep in mind you may need to prove the work has been done, so keep all receipts for the repairs and parts.
I had to use the extended coverage already, my fan failed.
I told the shop owner what had happened and how I diagnose the problem and he ordered a new one right away. When it came in, I had the opportunity to install it myself. Gave him the old one and all was good. Of coarse he made the warranty money on the install also, so it was a gain for him.

Well I have one of those bigger problems, which I know is uncommon for the most part for this model bike. But I have the pleasure of a bike built on a Friday, I guess.
Metal coming out of the engine with every oil change since new. And yes it's a fight.....they wont step up to the plate and replace the engine like they should. That's why I bought the warranty. but I think in the long run, things are going to get fixed through legal efforts.

Bought my '07 Diablo Black (fastest color) in Nov. '06. Most dealers use GTPP as a bargaining tool and will sell it for much less than MSRP. I bought the ext warranty for two reasons...I trust my dealer's service dept and to help with resale. I might not recoup all the money I spent, but it'll be a heckuva lot easier to sell with a year or so left on the warranty!
Haven't had to use it...extended warranties are a crap shoot anyway, but a prospective buyer will be more willing to part with his money if there's some warranty left, IMO.
