FIRST RIDE ON THE ZX-14
08/01/14 3:57 PM

SINCE I PURCHASE THE ZX-14 A WEEK AGO TODAY WAS MY FIRST TIME TO TAKE IT FOR A RIDE AND I CAN SAY...GRRRREAT.... AND FUN. ONLY WENT OUT FOR ABOUT 25 MIN BUT THAT BIKE HAS POWER. I DID START OUT SLOW (10 STREET BLOCKS) THEN JUMPED ON THE HIGHWAY AND WHEN I HIT THE THROTTLE IN FIRST GEAR IT TOOK-OFF AND NEXT THING I KNOW I WAS UP TO 65 MPH and barely had it half way(but I backed off)....the brocks do sound nice but I notice a popping sound sometimes when I slow down on the highway, but all in all...a great ride. I notice the tires are power ones and have a less tread pattern then my 250 ninja

Go almost WOT. Top out 2nd and upshift into 3, roll off the gas and decellerate from ~120-130 to blend in with traffic. Just don't let there be a cop riding up the expressway. LOL Hapeened to me once. Not much they could do. It was all a done deal within a few seconds. No way anyone could get a lazer lock on me. By the time they knew where I was coming from, I was slowing down.

the brocks do sound nice but I notice a popping sound sometimes when I slow down on the highway

You'll get that with most aftermarket exhausts. If you remove or block your PAIR, it will reduce the popping somewhat. Also rolling off the gas easy around 3.5 k rpm helps. The decel pops were like sizzling thunder below 3.5 k before I blocked my PAIR. It was cool but ....it was embarrassingly loud and drawn out. Even I couldn't take it and I love loud pipes. My 14 is out of commission right now and I'm riding the busa. I really miss the decell popping that the 14 has. You get pipe hot and the f###er will crackle like the 4th of July -- 2-3 quick firecrackers between gears. It's the coolest, AFAIC. I wouldn't get rid of it for the world.

Are the Brocks slipons? If you have the stock header, might as well leave the PAIR alone. There is a cat in the stock header and that may be affected by having the PAIR disabled.

I had those and did a track day with them. Good sticky tires when the weather is hot and dry. Not the best in rain, I guess. You may wear them out pretty fast. They are a heavily track oriented tire. I just ordered Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V2s for the busa. Another tire that is street legal but heavily track oriented. All those tires are very expensive so you are lucky to have bought them with the bike. To tell you the truth, I don't think the track tires help me corner any harder on the street than the the cheap, Bridgestone BT-016s I bought a few years ago. If this Pirelli doesn't really impress the heck out of me, I'm going to BT-016s until I'm good enough to exploit the racing qualities of a track tire. I like Bridgestone tires. A lot of people don't think their so great but those were the tires I wore out the edge or very close.

Go almost WOT......heck noooooo
Are the Brocks slipons?....full exhaust
I had those and did a track day with them. Good sticky tires ...I notice little pebbles like to stick to them and the bike came with an brand new power one rear (now that one I might sell locally...I don't race or do track 1/4 miles either)
oh yea....I do want to raise the handlebar. who sell them for the 2008?

"First gear? No way!" That's what I said but those days are gone. Every now and then the 14 gets a good full breath running straight down the road! It's hardly necessary but it's fun!

You might get 6-8k miles out of it if your easy on it. Mine was through a track day and it still lasted at least that long. I do pretty many touring miles. Many people only get 2500 out of a rear tire though.

If the Brock's is a full system, I'd try blocking the PAIR clean air hose.

or some have popped a marble in the hose and synched it off on both sides with zipties. Stick the hose back in the airbox.

or take the whole PAIR off and put on blockoff plates.

If you think you might want to go back to stock pipes, I'd leave the PAIR in. You won't hear any popping with the stock system on and you'll want the PAIR operational for that.

I also think with slip-ons the popping would be eliminated

LOL at WOT first gear... the first time I did that I found myself looking straight up at the sky...completely unexpectantly! I was expecting a power wheelie, but back in the day that meant the front wheel came off the ground an inch or two...not a full 45 degree wheelie! I have worked it slowly in first to WOT again once, but she really surprised the crap out of me. Luv the POWAH!!

I can't say if all slipons pop but I've heard that some do.

My Muzzy stainless black duals pop ... and I love it!

These things were a shock when I first got them because I had quickly become accustomed to the stealthy Cadillac-like OEM mufflers ... but I ain't ever goin' back now!

At the Tail of the Dragon, coming into Deal's Gap from west-to-east, it's a downhill run right into the parking lot where everybody is hangin'. Well, I made sure to downshift to 1st and come in at high RPM engine braking. That's an awesome sound, and I figgered everybody needed to hear it!

Yesterday got on it pretty hard in first. Son-bitch broke the rear tire loose SIMULTANEOUSLY doing a small power wheelie(KTRC 1..for the record). This thing is insane!!!

No wonder there's so many sold with about 1200 miles on them!

Half shells are okay for cruisers. Much better peripheral vision but you need glasses or googles for the wind. Also a fashion DON'T for sportbikes.
