That's a real nice looking road. Looks a bit like some of the roads we have out here in the Sierra foothills except the hill are brown this time of year. Nice job!

I was in Eureka Springs, Arkansas earlier this summer, for the Concours Owners Group National Rally, and in the course of riding in 4 different States, we rode a lot in Missouri and you do indeed have some great roads!

I've ridden a lot in SEMO, but not much in SW, other than around The Lake of the Ozarks area. Arkansas twice this year, once in The Boston Mountains around Eureka and once in the central (Little Rock) area. There may be better roads, but I don't know where else there are so many of them concentrated in one area. Ga.-Tn.-N.C. is good, as is W. Va. and Co., but there are a lot fewer roads in those areas than S. Mo. and N. Ar.

I would say, having ridden all over WV and VA and also NW Arkansas and 3 other states you can reach in a day ride (a hard day ride) and I see a lot of similarities.

WV and VA roads have trees. Not so much in NW Arkansas. What is called a tree around Eureka Springs is called a sapling in WV.

There are roads in WV and western VA along the border with WV that make the Tail of the Dragon look tame. Same can be said for a couple roads I was on near Eureka Springs, AR, which took about an hour to travel start to turn off, and just throws switchback and hairpin and tight S turns at you one after another, one after another, no let up, for an hour.

Heh.

There are some roads close to me in Wv you'd swear you are on the Dragon. It's tough on big bikes cause their all hairpins.I never counted them. But I'd swear it would be close to 300.It's on Rt 250 going to Moundsville,Wv.

went to nw arkansas with three buddies one time, stayed in russelville.... went to a bar that night and the four of us had more teeth than the rest of the people in the bar all put togther... seems there was a meth problem in that town... the roads there were the just great. been riding the tx hill country for years now, sure nice to ride arkansas and missouri. seems like we circled table rock lake, maybe cut across it... were staying in ft smith ar. that time. for a few years we did fall trips, now it seems we've rotated to spring trips to ar., cant wait for next year.

Life is good out here in the country! I am rarely on 4 lane roads. I feel for you Cats stuck in urban areas on 14's. If I lived in the city I would simply have to have a nasty Motard and forget the 14 except for touring......,

I agree ! I live in the forest at 9,000ft elevation and can't see my next door neighbor's house... Tom

Here's some riding pics near my home the past few days.

Where I live it's all twisties

Motorcycle skiing in late Spring ...

Motorcycle skiing... that just made my To Do list :)

Where the hell do you legs go? I can't imagine it being very comfy if your legs go OVER your skis

Reminds me of my younger days on a 75 Z-1.Carving the mountains of Mt Raineer. That road had everything.3 mile straights 110 mph double switch backs. The summit I think was 6000ft.I think the peak was 12000 ft or so.Beautiful riding.I was in the AF as an aircraft mechanic.I would love to sell my bike here then fly to Sea/Tac then buy a new bike and hit Raineer just one more time. Then ride it across country.Oh man that sounds hip.Guess that counts out the ZX-10 I wanted.ZX-14r would be it.Oh man selling this to Jennifer would be tough.Even though I saved her car from the repoman yesterday.Every dog has his or her day.

Your leg goes on the inside of the skis.

Here's the ski rack / slider

I used to ask myself if I really liked motorcycling when I was in NE!Not anymore... I have moved to TX. We don't have the best roads but when you add the climate, cost of living etc It's hard to beat.

@ Werkes: any good/affordable lodging available in your area? Those two curves are asking for some knee down action lol
Hopefully I can make it there before next summer!

The nearest foothills town with any good accomodations would likely be in Evergreen... mostly B&B's I'd imagine.
There are a couple B&B's near me also in the Aspen Park and Conifer areas. I can check them out if you'd like.

If you want nicer digs, then look into the front range ski areas of Summit County. In winter, prices are brutal, with summer being less expensive. In late spring and fall Condo's are their least expensive. Plus, Sept - early Oct offer the best riding in the front range mountains. Condo's in Keystone and Silverthorne are generally less expensive than Breckenridge or Frisco.

From Summit county you can ride either the front range or the foothills, and vice-versa. Denver is about 90 minutes away. Another option is to stay at the base of the Foothills in Golden, home of Coors Brewery. They have good hotels and restaurants. You will find great rides from there into the mountains up the many canyon roads.

A great resource for riding in Colorado is "The Complete Guide to Motorcycling Colorado" by Steve Farson.
I have no affiliation with this book... it's simply the best I've ever read on the subject. Most of my local rides can be found in the "Central Front Range" section. The Mt. Evans ride will take you to over 14,000ft, the highest paved road in North America.

If you stay in Keystone, this pic is 8 miles from town .... climbing up in the twisties to 12,000ft.
