Broke my bike yesterday (long story, tell ya later) and we have a race tomorrow. Guy offered me his zx10 to race in the 9.50 class so i don't miss out on any points. I've never even ridden a zx10 before

What should i expect? How does the clutch feel? Where do i launch it at? Christ, I feel like a newbie all over again...

This is where the resident climbs on, knows the note where to leave. Cable able; oh you're gonna like it if they use a cable. Almost hair-pin the perch gap. Set basket screw 1/4 turn out. This too; sets the hair-trigger. That cable now shrinks down to less than 1/16" gap. Kind of hard to setup on line, but that basket will grow and you'll lose the lever kind of runs to the grip. So, setup is key... IF > We are talking cable, not a liquid lever. Then if that is the case, back in the saddle again. Every bike has an ideosync kind of personality. Gotta find [that special leave] in her.

I've ridden a '05 10r a bunch... but never been down a dragstrip in my life, so not sure I can be any help. It's gonna be "different" for sure.
Interested to see what you think of it vs your zx14.

As Hub mentioned, the 10r has a cable clutch. I think you'll like that. I do. Gives more feedback than the hydro. It's like you can feel exactly whats going on in the gearbox.

1st gear is really tall. I'd think you might do better to launch in second and save a shift... but like I said, I've never been down the strip.

'04-'05 10r's redline at 13k and (atleast on mine) the "sweet spot" is from 9k-12.5k rpms.

Well I ended up riding a ZX14 instead.. Kinda disappointing but at least i got to race. Went out and made the fastest pass on that particular bike (9.46). The owner, nor any of his buddies could get that fast. In fact, I bettered the previous best by .1, and in the heat (4000' corrected elevation)

Now let me pause and say my shock is still set up for the strip.. It's WAY too stiff to be riding on the street..

Went over a set of railroad tracks that i'd been over a million times. I cross them at about 50, which is normal. Apparently this time was the straw that broke the camels back. As soon as i hit the tracks the lowering links snapped in half, which bottomed out the tire into the undertail/subframe. Pinched the wiring harness going into the ECU between the tire and the crossbrace on the subframe, pinching all the wires in two.

Something shorted at that time and killed the electronics. I don't know if the ECU is any good, won't know until i solder the wires all back together.

The blessing in all this, is I kept the bike upright. I haven't heard of this happening very many times, but usually when it does it results in the bike going down. It just delayed my trip home by a couple of hours waiting on a trailer.

Sounds like a huge PITA joining up all of those wires. Glad you did not get hurt and the bike was not wrecked. Sounds very fixable. Maybe a few $$ but I bet the rejoin will be all you need-----and some new lowering links.

By the way, you seem to do good at the strip with whatever you run. I bet you could make a Sportster turn good time. LOL.

what type or brand of lowering links

I'm almost ashamed to say, they were ebay specials. 3 holes.

I ran them since i bought the bike in late 07 if i remember right. Had no problems with them til now.

Installing a set of brock's links now.

i use a set of soupy's and a set of 3 hole roaring toyz ..

I've heard good things about the soupys links.. But a guy (that owes me $$ none the less) has a set of brock's 3 holes at his shop. So i'm gonna go with those for now.

Glad you do not need fixing. Sorry to hear bike does.

Too bad you didn't get to ride the 10. My fastest pass was on my 05. A 10.2@151. If the bank ends-up with the 14, an 05 10 is on the short list of replacements.
