Stand lugs hitting exhaust
06/12/14 11:49 PM

Hey guys. I've been worrying about my rear stand lugs hitting the left side muffler (Yosh R77) when the suspension compresses. It hasn't happened yet, but the lug sits right in the firing line. My Gen 1 was doing this with the stainless mufflers I had on and denting the inner under-side of the left can. I don't want this to happen to my carbon Yoshi's. I've got the smallest lugs I've come across on there. Does anyone have any ideas for avoiding this? I really want to put spacers or larger lugs on there to keep the race stand away from my swingarm, but I don't want to risk the exhaust in doing that.

Thanks for the info and advice guys. I'm pretty sure the dents in my Gen1 were from 2-up rides as well, hitting a bump while hauling ass through a corner. The back end must really squat down hard occasionally with the extra weight on board.

Any chance you can put a spacer between the can bracket and the mount on the bike, effectively moving the can outwards (away from the swingarm) and giving you the clearance you need?

Thanks. I was wondering how the hell this happened. I took the spools off, I will look at clearancing them to be put back on, or will have to goto the gilles type setup.

Found a use for the screen from the air filter.

Ouch!! Fatsix, that is a more severe version of exactly how my stainless cans got dented on my GEN 1. I can only imagine what it'd do to my carbon fibre Yoshi's. I think that everyone with dual mufflers should really check this. I held a steel ruler vertically against the side of the left side spool. The top of the ruler just contacts the edge of my exhaust.
I'd thought about NeedForSpeed's idea of spacing behind the exhaust bracket too and might have to try that, or reshaping the Yoshi exhaust bracket itself.
I came across these today for the 07 on ZX6R and wonder if they'd fit the ZX14R?
Does anyone know if the axle size and adjuster size is the same?

Further out on the left side isn't an option for me. I can drag my kickstand and midpipe on the left. And the lower fairing where the bump is for the engine on the right.

To keep the stock location either shorten the width of the spools. Or switch to a smaller diameter spool which should shorten it as well. Do they really need to be the size of skateboard wheels????

Other alternative is like you pictured. A rear mount setup, but you will have to upgrade or change the adjusters.

I like these Gilles, but they are not available for the 14.

We would have to use the other style adjuster. I know these had a problem with breaking in the past, not sure if they fixed it.
