My first Kawasaki

Hey everyone,

Took delivery of my 2013 ZX-14R today. It was a zero mile bike from Texas. I've coming off a B-King, which was a great bike but I can already tell I'm going to love the 14R. It just feels right. I haven't done too many miles yet, but I test rode a 2012 that the local dealer had and it was great.

I look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can.

Here is the bike, leaving Texas. I'll post some more when I get some. Bone stock for now, not sure if I'll do anything to it eventually.

LOL Every time I see a different color 14 I want one! Nice brother...she's a real looker! I actually thought those wheels were specific to the '13 SE edition but they look great with that paint scheme too.

Here's Evora with the OE wheels

And Evora with stock black wheels (I wanted 2 sets of rims)

It's nice to mix it up a little with the black and OE wheels...like getting her new shoes!

Very cool. I like the blacked out look.

Here it is, home at last. Had to take the hump off so I could give the kids and wife a ride.

I don't want to be booted from the forum on my first day, but when the ZX-14 came out in 2006 I thought it was one of the ugliest bikes I'd seen. Of course, it's not like I have a great taste in aesthetics, having owned a B-King :)

Anyway, I never gave the ZX much thought because I figured I'd never own one. But about six months ago the B-King began to leak oil (long story, but it was because the shop pinched a gasket after adjusting the valves and oil was weeping by). I had 42,000 miles at this point and I figured it was maybe time to trade up before things really broke.

I couldn't possibly move to a slower bike, and I had always had my eye on the BMW1000RR so I started scanning the web for some deals. Turns out a local dealer had both a used BMW and a used 2012 ZX-14R. And I thought, "Hey, the 14R is faster than my B-King and it's not as expensive as I thought it would be. Let's take a look."

I rode both bikes, the BMW first. The BMW is insanely fast, as everyone knows, but it's very tactile and involved. You know you are going fast. Oh, and your heels are almost up to your arse when you ride. Plus I'd never get the wife on the back of it. Still, I loved it. Then I rode the ZX-14. Did the same route as the BMW so I could compare apples to apples. My first thought was, "Oh, it's not as fast as the beemer." Then I looked at the speedo and about choked. I couldn't believe how 'no big deal' the Kawasaki was about going triple digits.

Long story short I looked all over the place for ZX-14Rs in my price range and found the nice example above in Texas. They were great about taking the B-King on a trade and bent over backwards to make the deal happen on my schedule. Don't know if rules permit, but I'll give them a shout out: http://www.freedompowersportsfortworth.com/

And, as much as it may sound like I'm trying to get in good graces here, I am really starting to love the look of the big Zed X. It has grown on me. There's nothing else out there like it.

SERIOUSLY ROFL!!!!!!

Love the 1000RR too, that's something I'd consider getting as well. I'll bet that B-King is a pretty wild ride too..180 hp and no fairing?! LOL that's insane!

As far as looks

I'm with you. When I first got the 14 I actually thought it was a bit homely. I wanted something big and powerful (my truck is a 4 cyl), and I thought for the price, and everything this bike is perfect. But I didn't think it looked very good.

Over time as I worked around it, and saw it from various angles and lines and such the looks grew on me more and more. I think I stopped looking at a line, and starting looking at the lines. Today, I never see a 14 as anything but drop dead gorgeous, absolutely one of the most stunning looking bikes ever built. I know now that my mind was warped when I saw it as homely, EVER. It was me, not the bike. The lines of this bike are unbelievable. Around here from time to time people compare the styling to a Ferrari. I even grew to like the big ol stock cans, again seeing it as part of the whole and not just looking at them. I do like my Yosh pipe's looks better, but I think even the stock exhaust looks great on this bike.

Yup...congrats on yer Green Meanie!Mine's as yours is...gorgeous candy green.Glad you like your new bike.As you say...there's really nothing else out there in this bike's class that compares.Have fun taking the fam for rides;)

Replacing those stock mufflers with something lighter and more 'streamlined' is a good first mod for ya.I have the Brock's single CT...with DB killer installed.I can ride it WITHOUT earplugs....nice.

Sounds like you have a great area to ride in...Arizona.Have fun!
