Extended warranty yes ? no ?
11/04/14 4:41 AM

got a card in mail today about extending my factory warranty on my 14r , up to 4 yrs I was wondering if anyone has done this I've always heard that they are a ripe off , but im thinking about it due to fact that I run her hard and I plan on keeping her , it would run 800.00 to add 4 yrs. to my bike , any thoughts ? thanks all and keep cruising ,

I just passed on mine. I did think long and hard about it.I already did a full exhaust, reflash, PCV. Never got one before and I never take my bike to the dealer. If my motor blew up(knock on wood) I would want to rebuild with all better internals anyway, and the 14R seems to be pretty damn bulletproof for the most part....

I do all my own maintenance to the bike anyway, I don't like the idea of another man putting his paws on my girl lol

No extended warranty here. They offered that with the bike. Also, Liability insurance since day 1.

My logic, risk is a part of this game. I can spend the $$ on mitigating risk or I can spend on Making the bike more interesting and faster. I pick interesting and faster. I'm prepared to accept a total loss if I crash (not yet) and I'm willing to fix whatever breaks myself (so far, nothing).

Ad up the cost of warrantees and full coverage ins. and see how few years it would take to apply that $$ to a brand new bike. That's how I see it. If your more conservative in your use of the bike, maybe extended warranty is for you but I'd bet you won't ever use it. Not only that, but if you do use it, you'll have to take the bike to the dealership to have it fixed and those are often not the best place for repair, service or anything but buying a bike.

The insurance companies also bet we won't all use it

Depending on how much it is, it may not be a bad idea, but if you plan on getting a flash, get another ecu
just in case you ever bring it in for warranty engine work ...

It's a roll of the dice, you PROBABLY will not use it, BUT you never know ...

These big motors have been known to throw a rod or bend a valve etc ....

If you're going to modify your bike heavily a warranty woould be pointless. If you're going to add some pipes and a few basic things, or keep it stock that's a plus for the warranty. If you're going to fully maintain the bike, that's another plus.

I bought 4 years for mine for $950. I'm guessing within the 5 years there will be at least one thing that needs serviced under the warranty. But it's basically like insurance, you don't need it until you need it. It's legal gambling, with hell probably slightly better odds than actual gambling. It's definitely something they make a profit on, like every place that sells them. For every 5 they sell, probably profit at least 50-60%. If you bought it and use it, you'll be glad you did. If you don't end up using it, well I suppose hindsight is always 20/20.

It's just something you have to decide on.

Not to mention I have heard many stories of Kawasaki not honoring their warranty if an issue did come up. If they say it's abuse or improper maintenance, they just won't pay.. That simple.

I mayself said forget the factory warranty because my bikes get modified the day they hit my garage. Most of my friends laugh at me cause as soon as I decided on a bike to get I already have boxes of parts I want to install before I ever get the bike. I do most of my own maintenance and unless there is a factory recall my bike never goes back to the dealership for any servicing. I have a guy here that works on my bikes that I trust way more than my local dealer. Lets say we have had some issue's with minor servicing of my bike and others. But if your buying a new bike and want piece of mind or a resale plus ...or not mechanical inclined it maybe worth it to you if you have a dealership you trust..but in most cases after the 1st year after buying a new bike in my opinion. A watse of money

I am covered for 5 years total , cost me $400? If I remember right.

My bike will be paid off well before that, small cost for piece of mind.

And you guys are right. They make those warranties and the productions so you wont need them. A co-worker of mine's brothers job is to look a products to find out when they will fail and create a warranty period for it short of the expected life of the product... and he gets paid well to do that LOL.

You can work a deal with a bike dealer and get a discount.
I bought one when I got my bike, and don't regret it. I don't want someone elses mitts on my bike either, but if it has a major failure, I don't want to have to pay for that. The less I know about bike transmissions, the better.

I'm reading the opposite, Kawasaki seems to go to pretty extensive lengths to keep customer's happy. I've read several stories that Kaw just replaced an engine, or transmissions, etc. There's been a couple where people had to fight to say, get the engine replaced vs. rebuilt or something but most of the time the dealer seems on the side of the customer which probably helps (obviously in a dealer's interest).

I bought 4 years for just over $400 but that was two years ago. I think I bought it from this guy. Call him I'm pretty sure these prices are negotiable.

I personally wouldn't get it. I purchased the extended warranty when I bought my bike this year. Got my money back a few weeks later. Realized it wasn't worth it.

Wonder if I can buy it and get my money back after four years, you know ... once I realize it wasn't worth it.
