Fu#@%g Power Commander
09/15/12 12:12 PM

So I was about to gear up for a ride, and went out for a little while to loosen up for the ride. I was on the freeway crusing along and got a blip----- where the bike just burpped. then back on. It freaked me out so just as I was about to pull off. D-D-D-Duuuuaaaa XX's IN HER eyes. Fu@# I am just gonna say this just for the record I hate pushing.I coasted as far as the offramp would take me.Lucky me qurter mile to shell gas station. Did I say I hate pushing Called the wife. Babe can you hook up the trailer by yourself? lol after she picked me up we went home got the trailer. lol So after looking at everything I could think of I try to start her up she runs for a sec and cuts out I am thinking fuel pump. Well the assassin only has 4500 miles on her so I was pressed to find something else so I pulled off all the body work. ok! I hate pulling the body work too when its not by choice lol, I unhook the PC, hookup without it and AAAAHHH she breaths again so I hook back up the Pc, bust out the laptop and it tells me not reading it. Tried to reset it, nothing. SO now I am faced with puttin it back, NO Pc, flies out and pipped up, till I get one or leave it all apart till I get one.

Even I know I can't ride her that way, so she is running, but not able to be ridden.I guess I could put the flies back in and go for it, but she would not be happy so I guess I'm going to buy another one butnot feeling to sure about it at this point. To think I was about to do a road trip to las Vagas I would have been F'd up If I was in the desert and this happend Glad I was 10 miles from home. Ride Safe brothers

P.S. pushing sucks

Did you check the ground? Can't count the number of times guys had piggy problems and it was just the ground wire didn't have a solid connection to ground.

+1 on the ground. Almost sure to go faulty if grounded on the engine coolant reservoir with teh ordinary OEM bolt.

Glad you avoided a much bigger hassle, xxxses.

yuk

Even I know I can't ride her that way, so she is running, but not able to be ridden.

You could have and still can ride it that way. You would not be the first or the last to do so. 3500 to 3700 has a lean spot so Don't spend two hours on highway at that exact RPM and all will be ok. Bike was rich from factory.

P.S. pushing sucks

Yep, have you tried jump starting ???? That's something you may never 4 get,,, just Sayin

Yep, Every bike I installed behind water bottle eventually came back NFG.

Sorry to hear this but welcome to the real world, stuff fails. I'm now on factory recall #6, one on the CBR and five on the Kawis....stuff happens. Also look at the bright side, it may have seemed a PITA at the time but a couple hundred bucks for a new PC3 and an hours labor and you're good as new, we had early 14s blowing the #3 rod bearing, now that's a real problem.

Yep, had a bad ground on the PC3 on my '08 ZX-10R. Ran about twenty minutes after the install and quit.I was pissed! The Dyno Jet tech rep told me I had a bad ground and he was right. A 30 cent jumper wire and half hour of my time and it was good as gold.

SO, is this a real item? because I and many others have 06-07 and have no problems with the #3 or any other bearings.

Maddevill, I don't know how new you are to the ZX-14 scene but I picked mine up in June of '06 and it was a well known issue with some '06/'07s. There were a few that had a problem with #3 rod bearing including my old friend John Sachetti aka "Ghostrider", who developed a severe rod knock at under 2000 miles in his '07. Kawasaki paid for a bottom end rebuild but he sold the bike shortly after he got it back, lost confidence I think. It wasn't widespread enough to create a recall but there were several on the old ZX-14 forum and over at Bikeland.

Ask some of the old timers around here..... if there are any left from that era besides me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How many miles when it let go, didn't #3 rod come crashing through the side of the crankcase? It's been a while so the details are a tad fuzzy but if I remember, you were doing a lot of wheelies that could have led to the problem (oil starvation)?

About 15k miles. Rod punched a hole through the case as big as my fist.
I do not even know how to make wheelies.

Naaa, mine would have popped.

Talking with a couple race shops and hearing stories of oiling issues. Story goes the plate on the oil pump leaks badly. Shity 3 hole design. Even with billet plate from Muzzy still leaks. This might be a worth while purchase.
I'm told this Helps,,, but is not a fix

Kruz, you remember my gauled camshaft caps? Our old bud 1bad told me about this thing a couple years back.

HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP

....and I think he was steering me more in this direction (if I wanted to go with NOS).
OIL PRESSURE VALVE

OIL PUMP COVER

OIL PUMP GEAR

1bad seemed to be indicating that these were not a sure fire fix for the oil circulation limitations the 14 was designed with.

I called 1Bad awhile back and he said this site has gotten (his words not mine) way too boring or something to that effect.

I think the bad economy has really hurt his construction business also and he doesn't seem to have the money for playtoys that he had before.

He'll be back someday, he is a wealth of knowledge, forgot more than most people know. If I have any kind of maintenace issue, he's the first person I call. His info is usually dead on accurate.

Hmmm, this is the first I've heard about oiling issues with the 14 other than the #3 rod letting go, which I thought was limited to just a few bikes.

Is this under extreme racing conditions? I've seen several of these bikes with over 60,000 miles, one I've heard about with over 100,000 miles and 1Bad had 30,000 miles on his '06, mostly 1/4 mile at a time and said when he opened it up the main and rod bearings looked liked new and were reused.

Same thing with the ZX-11.Would let the #3 rod go.Seems like they would finally get it wright.
