Prospective ZX-14r owner
07/27/14 8:06 PM

Hello. Hoping someone can shed some light on the 2013 vs 2014 model. I have been pre=approved for a brand new 2013 ZX-14r at my local Kawi dealership and they are willing to let me have it for $15,064.00 OTD including a 4 year Kawi extended warranty.
So my questions are:
1. Do you think this is a good buy?
2. Is there a difference between the 13 and 14 model year?
I have read that the 2014 model has some mods to the frame allowing for quick access to the battery and to the air filter but that is all. The 13 model I am looking at has the battery access in the side of the frame with a cover so its access seems to be easy as-is.
Please if anyone knows the difference or can shed some light It would be appreciated.

Tahnks.

Depends on two things: if its ABS and or special edition paint (SE paint for '13 is the black/green like in my avatar). The red and white are both considered standard. I bought a new '13 for 12,300 on June 14th with SE paint but no ABS about 2 months ago. I got the 4-year warranty too, for $950. So initially, it sounds high considering the '13s have gone down another notch price wise from start-of-the-season to nearing-end-of-the-season.

I would expect to pay (US Dollars) 11,500 for my bike right now. 11,200 for "standard" paint, and maybe 11,900 for '13 with ABS. Your market could be different, but prices I've seen around the forum have reflected this as well. Keep this in mind, motorcycles run ahead of cars, many '15 models have been out since early summer. The '14s are going for mid 13s at this point in time.

That I know of, there are no significant differences between '13 and '14 models (nor '12 or '15). Good luck, buy one, it's a pretty freaking awesome bike, 1,265 miles of lov'n every minute of it so far.

I'd look for a new 2012 and use the extra $$ for an exhaust, a flash and maybe rearsets.

DON'T let a dealer con you into shipping in a 2012 from some other dealership unless it is in a crate and tell them you want to SEE it uncrated. They'll probably hire some dikweed to haul an uncrated bike on a truck and it will get tipped over or dropped. Hapenned to me. I even offered to haul it myself...but they wouldn't accept the liability so they had some dikweeds haul it and dropped it instead.

Personally, anything over 13K for last year's scooter is a bridge too far.
