Doesn't feel right
09/08/15 11:17 AM

Hi guys,

About 3 weeks ago my bike dropped on its side stationaryly. Not once but twice on the left.
The first drop wasn't that bad but the second was pretty bad. Rolled forward a little and the side stand wasn't engaged properly. The left mirror broke and it cracked the head fairing a little. Clutch lever was gone as well. Taped a pen to the remaining of it and rode back home. No engine damage was found. Mainly the plastics were gone.

So the next day I went to my local bike shop and sent it to be re sprayed and serviced. Everything except the tank and tail fairings were sent to be sprayed. came back with a slight Color or shine mis match. Also asked the shop to install the R&G frame and fork sliders as well. Collected the bike today and something doesn't feel right. Firstly the sliders are installed backwards. And the handling of the bike feels weird. Maybe it's due to taking public transport for 3 weeks killed the senses, I don't know but what I suspect is the left clip on is bent. How do I check or inspect it properly?

I'll post some photos later in the day of my mis adventures.

Sorry about the drops, begs a question though. Are you leaving the bike in gear when you shut it off? If its fallen twice sounds like your in neutral or something is seriously wrong with your side stand. I always leave mine in gear and put the stand down to kill the engine that way I know I remembered to put the stand down.

I am not a PRO so my methods may be wrong but here's what I'd do to check the bars. I'd put the front and rear in stands so there's no movement and the front end is forced straight ahead. I'd then measure from the bar end weight screw on both sides to the ground, number should be the same. Then if those are the same I'd measure from the same bolts to somewhere on the frame that has a bolt in the same spot on both side, again those numbers should be the same.

I would also leave the rear on the stand an put a jack under the oil pan to get the front end up in the air and check to see if the handlebars rotate freely from side to side.

You say it doesn't feel right which is usually the case after a drop. Have you tried taking your hands off the grip while running in a safe spot to see if the bike tracks straight?

Hope you get it straighten out to your liking.

Looks like you missed inserting the side piece tab(at the top edge) into the tab slot on the tank fairing piece.Do not force it in there.Remove side piece and reinstall. The slider should be turned 180 degrees. The point needs to be going back...not forward.Take those out and switch sides.

I've never seen a slider with the point going forward.I don't think it's supposed to.Not with those?(From the RG website)(zx14 AERO sliders)

Hey Grn, I think it sounded like he is saying that the bike shop put it back together like that. Including installing the sliders backwards.

Static, sorry that is not a good color match. The misfit and sliders are an easy fix.

Looks like you ride with a good mix of bikes in your group. A few to many Busa's. But I guess someone needs to bring up the rear.

whatever about the paint, if you accepted it how it is, but handing back the bike with panels not replaced properly is kinda shit,

Agree.NOT okay. Now if you break something reinstalling..who pays?If you can't do it yourself...run that baby right back immediately and get it sorted.

Some of these 'techs' just don't get it.Ask me how I know;)

Hi Guys,

Went back to the shop today and fixed my sliders... And after some eyeballing and measurement, the left tube was bent down and back(towards the rider) by like 2 or 3mm. Replaced a new pair and she seems to be okay now. Need to road time to feel it. 3mm made a lot of differences

I can live with the shitty paint work for a bit. Is there a thread where you guys show stuff you've fixed on to your bikes? I've got a 12V and 5V adapter. Not quite sure where I can position it.
