numb hands
04/04/14 1:13 PM

Ive been riding on the street since I was 20 (36 now), and no matter what kind of bike im on within 30 mins my hands go numb. Ive experimented with all types of loose grip, different hand positions on the grips ect. Nothing helps whatsoever. Anybody else have this problem? Solutions?

Yea I always wear full gear, but that's something I haven't tried there. I usually rest all my body weight on my wrist

"I usually rest all my body weight on my wrist"....there's your deal.Use your torso(knees) to lift off the bars...a throttlemiester will also help to give your wrist a rest.A light touch on the bars will work...the frontend will track just fine.Except on rough road surfaces...but otherwise. The bike will actually handle better getting that weight off the bars as well.

You can practice gripping by removing your hands completely from the bars...and using your knee grip to hold your torso up a bit. This is where a throttlemiester shines;)Holding a tight grip in any manuever will restrict the frontend's ability to compensate for tracking. You don't want to have that happening. It should track on it's own, with mild inputs to the bars.Having a throttlemiester will allow you to rest your hands, fingertips on the bar ends...and gently push in the direction you want to go.

You might try a set of these: Your text to link here...

Easy install, 4 bolts and that's it for my ABS model. I think on non-ABS there is some sort of brake line relocation that has to take place, looks pretty basic. Instructions are on that link.

I put them on my 14R right after I bought it. Being hunched over too much can cause you to put too much weight on your wrists causing numbness.

YMMV

Thanks Cara...been wanting to install these since two years ago.FINALLY had some midpipes that fit;)Still have my Yoshis...but these I like better.Actually the first set I've seen on a sportbike...other than the website pics. They're not very popular I reckon...not for the big Ninja anyway. But I like em...

When I ordered em...they said they would fit my 2012....they didn't.The midpipe was fabbed wrong....I put em up and got the Yoshis.Got my Akros Headers...added the Yosh midpipes..and tried the V&H's on there...they worked;)Was getting tired of polishing those Yosh's...great pipes...but black seems better....performance is at least on par with the Yoshimuras or Brocks...at least.

I know what you mean about polishing the SS one, it's kind of getting old. I may go to some sort of
Carbon Fibre or black ....

The thread kinda changed here a bit....but I think you can buy the outside canister in CF from Yoshimura. Then install...if you have the rivet tools and such.Just the outer sheath...not the inner part.

After relaxing and not resting my weight on my hands and arms; the next easiest thing I found for helping with hand issues are these: http://www.grip-puppy.co.uk/

Grip puppies. They are cheap ($10). Comfortable. reduce Vibration. And Easy to slip on over your existing grips. Available from a bunch of sellers, ebay, amazon, etc. And absolutely amazing.

I have had hand surgery which has weakened some of my grip strength, and also results in making it hard to hold tightly to things for a long time. By having the grip puppies make the diameter of the throttle BIGGER; I don't have to squeeze down as hard. They really are amazing. and ten bucks.

I second Grip Puppy. It's just a simple slip on grip overlay to give you more cushion/ less vibration. I only ride with weight on my arms when I am in town 50mph or less (usually not in town long). +1 on grip tank with knees and have a light grip. It will cure the numbness, also ride everyday - its kinda like moto-exercising (for the body and soul).

3rd on Grip Puppies. My throttle hand used to go numb after about 20 minutes. Now I'm usually good for all day.

Get your weight off your hands and relax your grip. Not only is it more comfortable, the bike instantly becomes more controllable.

I have 2 sets of grip puppies sitting here, just haven't installed them yet. They are great, but you need to get the weight off your hands too!Put more weight on your legs and torso to support your upper body.

Numb hands? How about this fella with numb body? Yeah, its been a long winter.....and especially up int the Big Sky neighborhood. Looks like he's got that upright torso thing down good, but definitely needs some wired gloves!
