questions about power commander
08/23/13 8:31 PM

these are dumb questions, but I know nothing about power commanders and maps ect..im thinking about getting the power commander 5 because the bike shop near me says it is an incredible difference and worth every penny, my question is if I install it myself (it will save me 200.00 that's what they want), but will it be rideable until I can get it to them to load the map? will it be just like normal until they load there map? also someday when I change the battery and there is no power do I loose the map? and where do most of you mount it? thanks in advance

1. It may come loaded with a map already. If not, download a 14 map close to your mods and enter it as per directions.
2. Yes, you can ride it to the shop. It may run better than the dyno run, who knows?
3. No, you will no lose the map of either the ECU or the pc: if you remove the battery for service, replacement, etc. It goes something like a clock. Pull the cord, you lose the time [random access memory - RAM]. Whereas, if you plugged it back in, the numbers appear, [ROM - read only memory] is how it works is the map is already burned in so it is to read only this map. Think again as if turning the bike off. The pc does not lose the map this way either.
