Can anyone verify any difference between the 2013 model vs. the 2014 model? I have only read that on the 2014 model the battery and air filter are accessible through the frame which I believe is the same on the 13.

Try posting this in the 14r section, you'll probably get your answers quicker.

The 14 and R all have the same position of parts in the same location. The R air cleaner is a touch larger element and is not interchangeable. The ECU's are not interchangeable IF you have ABS. Why? The back of the ECU's connectors have blank spots on the wire harness connector end, where the ABS would be fed in and sent out are those empty openings. Would a 13 and 14 year ECU be interchangeable? Yes. My guess is the pins are blank but the same ECU is the same... Can't verify but if the pins are there and the wires are not, hello?
So say the white 2013 R came with skid only, no ABS hoses, unit, etc. I'm going to use the same ECU w/ABS. All I'll do is not connect a wire to nowhere, I'll leave the pins blank. If an ABS comes down the line, I still pickup the same ECU and install it. I have no clue if a bean counter wants to eliminate a few resisters and diodes off the motherboard for a non-ABS: that I don't know?
Only a plugit-in knows for sure.
