Battery: 240 CCA vs 200 CCA.
10/27/13 12:05 PM

I asked this question in another topic but it may be lost in the discussion.
I'm looking at the Yuasa YTX14"H"-BS or the YTX14-BS.
The "H" is higher performance and gives 40 more CCA. Cost is about $20 more. Cost isn't important.
Do you know if the 40 more CCA matters? Many have bought the standard performance battery so I'm leaning toward that one. No one has said they bought the "H" model but it IS harder to find.
A little more CCA seems like a good idea but could there be any negatives like not being 100% compatible with the electronics? May be a stupid question but I'm asking anyway.
I have no idea what the stock Furukawa battery CCA is but I'm not paying $270 for it.
Any help appreciated. The YTX is on sale through today at a nearby store so I'm looking for help making a decision. Thanks.

Unless you have upped the compression there really is no need for the extra cranking amps. The extra CCA just supplys more "power" to the starter so it can turn over a high compression motor.

Yes. The stock FTZ14-BS was a good battery for me too, but $270 is a lot for a battery.
I looked everywhere I could think of. Did you find it cheaper?

My battery is also a YTX14-BS. In the winter time is always connected to a battery tender. So far so good, knock on wood...

You really only need more cranking amps in like nasty said higher compression motors to turn over a stronger strarter or in cold climates when cranking the bike. I got 3 bikes and go with standard Yuasa batteries and no problems.

I might be missing something but I searched the part number for my 2012 14R at Kawasaki.com and came up with 26012-1410 for the battery. This is listed as a Furukawa FTX14-BS.

The 2007 model listed part number 26012-1409 which is the Furukawa FTZ14-BS.

The link in my signature lists both of these part numbers as costing $91.96. It might be worth a look if you're interested in this particular brand and staying OEM.

There are two Furukawa batteries that fit the ZX-14 as noted by the OEM part numbers:

One number is a FTX14-BS which is a 12 AH model and has a dry weight of 3.8kg's.
One number is a FTZ14-BS which is a 14 AH model and has a dry weight of 4.1kg's.

The physical dimensions for these two batteries is identical.

electrolyte volume is marginally different at 690 ml's for the 12AH model and 720 ml's for the 14AH model. This will affect weight slightly.
