Jake Wilson...any experience with them?
10/04/11 10:43 AM

I've never ordered from Jake Wilson before but they seem to have the best prices on the BT-016 Bridgestones right now with free 3 day UPS shipping, $141.95 for a 190/50ZR17 delivered. I was wondering about the (73W) in their product designation, anyone know what that means? They make these tires in OEM and non-OEM spec and the non-OEMS are much grippier in my experience.

Also I have never tried a 190/55R17 on my 14 before, is it worth going to this tire, what difference if any did you notice?

Lat thing, I need a new inflation gauge. My pencil type is a royal PITA to get to the front valve stem and get a good reading. Who makes the best dial type gauge that is easy to get on there and get a good reading?

My last tire order was from them but for 3 sets of tires with 3 days to my door. I cannot complain about then and the tire dates were this year so they were not older tires. That was all 3 sets with 3 different brands.

I mount and balance quite a few tires for folks around here.

Wished I either a) lived near you, lytnin, or b) owned a good tire machine. Heh.

Oh yeh, OOTC, Jake Wilson is good folks, they've done me solids on stuff I've ordered, and a few returns - all accepted and refunded.

I think you will notice a definite change in turn in with a 55. I really like the 55 height in the BT-016. The 003 I have on the 14 now is a 55 but seems better suited for track than the street.

It will take some getting used to but definitely worth it to try.

If you have an extra $100 laying around go pick up a pancake tank compressor and a nice 25' bright orange self coiling air line from HF. Get a tire inflator attachment with a gauge and a lock on chuck. Hands free, should fit in there by the front rotors easily. No more running in to get change at the gas station to use their compressor.

Hi Rook, I'm new to this forum and from South Africa.
Do you guys have to pay for inflating your tyres at the petrol ( sorry gas ) station

Some gas stations have coin operated air stations now, and the number is increasing.

Back in 2009 I purchased a small commercial grade air compressor with tank, and built a hose and chuck with quick disconnects. I have since used it on both cars and motorcycles, and even once the neighbor child's bicycle.

Problem with air compressors that have a tank, you have to run them frequently and blow the tanks out, to keep moisture out of them.

I just ordered one of these Road Gear Professional Digital Tire Gauges. At $32.95 + shipping I thought it offered the best bang for the buck of all the gauges I looked at and had a lot of excellent reviews from the cycle rags.

I keep a Campell-Hausfeld compressed air tank in the garage, $19.95 at Home Depot and it holds 100 psi. I inflate it at the gas station about once a month and can keep all of my tires properly inflated.

I'll give Jake Wilson my business, they're way cheaper than the Motorcycle Superstore on these BT-016s.

I ordered the RoadGear Pro Digital tire gauge two days ago and it arrived this afternoon. I really like it, almost makes it fun to check tires now instead of the PITA it used to be. Gauge is compact and easy to use, slips right I'n there between the front rotors and you can't blow the reading if you get it on there crooked like the pencil types. Highly recommended.
