No Tag Numbers in Your Photos
07/14/10 4:30 AM

If there if one thing we've learned in New Jersey, It's DON"T POST PICTURES that show your License Plate # or your Street address. There are people out there (both legal and illegal) that might use this info to locate you and your Bike. Don't think for one moment the your information on your License plate is TOP SECRET. Your Pretty Bike that's on the internet today, just might be on tomorrows "HOT SHEET". And the picture that shows you doing wheelies down the road with your Tag # in plain view, just might earn you a ticket.
Go ahead and post your pictures, but remember to Cover or Blur out your info....

Nowadays, it pays to be a little paranoid !

I've pondered that before as I've posted my tags in shots on the net before but my thoughts are "what the heck", 3000 people a day see my tags when I'm out riding and none of them have followed me home and ripped me off yet. I don't keep my bikes at home anyway, too risky unless you have a very good home security system that covers your garage. If a thief really wants your bike he's going to get it, alarm or no alarm. I try to make it as difficult as possible cause they're basically lazy and they'll move on to easier pickins.

Cop has to witness you in the act of breaking the law. So no worries there.

Like Kruz said, thousands of people see the tag every day. No worries there either.

Being paranoid does nothing but make you.. well paranoid.

Unless you supply a signed confession. Of course it's very difficult to separate the true confessions from the fiction. All of my online tales have been absolute lies.

No, Officer. There is no way my little bike pulled that Camper over 100mph. That's crazy. I'm 46 years old. I am to old to do that.

not necessarily true. RED LIGHT CAMERAS. get a ticket through the mail. In Akron,OH a few yrs ago there was a local rider that was well known for high speed wheelies down a 1 mile section of the freeway but cops couldnt catch him in the act. News crew was filming a story in that area and caught him on tape... He was arrested a few hrs after the news aired.

I've pondered that before as I've posted my tags in shots on the net before but my thoughts are "what the heck", 3000 people a day see my tags when I'm out riding and none of them have followed me home and ripped me off yet. got ya 1 better on this one Kruz my plates are from 1 state while the bikes are in another lol

Why not post pictures where your plate is visible? Everyone who is behind me when I ride, or passes by when it is parked at work or the mall, sees the plate.

I could give a rats arse if they run my plate numbers and find my address.

I'm here, punks. Come and get it. Bust open the garage door, set off the alarm. Meet Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson.

"Yes officer, I was in grave fear for my life!"

A lot of bikes get stolen by guys with pickup trucks who make a living at it. Three of them bale out of the truck, pick the bike up, wheel locks and all, and throw it in the bed of the truck. They don't care if they bugger the bodywork, its going to be parted out anyway.

They find the bikes by cruising downtown, in parking garages, malls, all the usual places. When they find one that isn't being anchored with a cobra link (chains cut easy, even chrome moly chains, with 4 foot cutters) they come when nobody is around and grab it.

So for the vast majority of sportbike thefts, your license plate has nothing to do with it. Its easy just to cruise for easy targets than risk running into someone like me who won't hesitate to kill them.
