Myself and a colleauge took a six hour drive up to the Oberwiesenthal ski resort in eastern Saxon this afternoon. This is the highest mountain town in Germany and lies near the Czech border.
The weather was beatiful, the roads were a dream and German sportbikers were out by the hundreds. I was impressed by the quality of the machinery with lots of Ducatis, CBR Hondas, Yamahas, Kawasakis, Suzukis and an occasional BMW and KTM thrown in to the mix.
Most impressive was the level of rider protection I wtnessed. 70-80% of the sportbike guys were wearing full leather racing suits with spine protectors. The gear looked first rate and I saw some guys laying down some nice moves as they blew by me in the corners in the old Mercedes Van I was driving.
I would like to see this level of comittment to rider safety back home where far too many sportbike riders wear only a full covearge helmet and little else in the way of protective gear.
