Best CF heel guards?
03/10/14 6:44 PM

Anybody know whose manufacturing the best quality carbon fiber heel guards for the ZX14R? I see the same set of photos advertised everywhere with a dozen different companies names slapped on. Is there a difference in all these? Or do I just pick the cheapest ones and call it a day

I'm willing to pay more for a better product, and I'd prefer to have a twill weave or something. Anything but the 1x1 plain pattern it just makes them look like they're fake. And if all these people are selling the same ones, whose making them??

Parts are rolling in so fast it feels like Christmas already.. spent waaaay too much I know ! Build thread to come soon. Cheers

I went with bestum. They look great. Great quality. Only down side is I had to drill the holes a size or two larger but really wasn't an issue. They were around $50.

Otherwise contact carbon fibre fever on ebay or Facebook. Or email him at bloodyfkhm@hotmail.co.uk He will custom weave a set to your liking.

That is some fantastic looking work! Wish I could afford all those parts, that IS my color of bike....;)

I'll email him once to see but I'm sure being overseas plus custom woven carbon is going to be FAR more than I would expect to pay for an off-the-shelf pair. His work looks like truly top tier stuff. Amazing.

He quoted me $215 shipped for a rear hugger. Expensive but within the same ball park of all the other quality carbon fiber guys.

I searched eBay for all the carbon fiber heel guards, refined it to show cheapest first, and worked my way down to find a set that was in the US. First set was in China for $29, next one down was in California for $32. Ordered them on the spot.

I did look at all 8 or so listings, they show the same exact photos (literally)....the same description with a bulleted list...etc. Same shit different sellers. Only reason I picked the set from Cali was shipping is normally quicker in NA than from China direct.

I'm also going to have my stock ones powder coated black by forum member 06blackpearl. I like to send business to fellow enthusiasts, and he seems to have done some seriously good work and is reasonably priced. Plus if the carbon ones are junk, I'll still have a black set. Don't know about the semi-gloss finish tho, most of the frame around that area is all satin gunmetal gray-ish black-ish. I hope it blends in, otherwise I'd prefer flat black... There's a pic around here of a guy who Plasti-dipped his and THAT is the look I really want. (Black pearl if you're listening!)

Those Lockhart Phillips ones are only $40 (didn't calculate shipping) but they look much nicer than the other generic carbon ones. Like the set I bought already. Why didn't you speak up earlier?! Lol

Side note, they only list them as 06-11 so it would be a gamble to see if they'd fit the ZX14R model. I'd assume so though. If I'm not satisfied with the $30 ebay ones I may return them and give LP a shot. Thanks!

Got the carbon fiber heel guards in today. They were not packaged very well... both guards just dropped in a ziplock bag together and stuffed into a padded envelope. Probably would've scratched the shit out of any aluminum, but they appear unharmed. Very thin and light, they didn't seem to be very generous with the resin, just enough to form the part and hardly a few drops made it around to the edges or back surfaces. Not that this is a bad thing, nor would it benefit from having had more resin. Just a thought. Still don't like the pattern on them, but what do ya do.

Can't compare them side by side with my OEM ones until I get them back from powdercoating from 06blackpearl here on the forum. Will make sure they are formed properly with regards to hole diameter and placement as well as bend location and degree once I get my stockers back. Overall, I don't think I'd buy them again, but I won't be returning them, it's not worth the hassle and money to ship.
