Metal Foot Pegs Vibration Question
05/26/10 3:42 AM

Greetings.
On the ZX-14, do entirely metal foot pegs transmit more vibration to your boot sole that foot pegs with a rubber contact surface?
I've seen some nice aftermarket peg setups with knurled metal pegs that had no rubber on them.
I wanna make some rearsets for my ZX.
What are the pros and cons of pegs with no rubber contact surface?

Round pegs will be uncomfortable if you put weight on them.

My Buell XB pegs have no rubber, and I don't notice any vibration in them. Though I'd much rather get a lowering bracket and use my stock pegs anyway. If I find one that is worth the money.

I have the round metal pegs, and have had NO issue with them! I have done several 500+ mile days.

My foot runs at the ragged edge off that rubber-less stock foot peg. If you check the sync at the throttle body via all 4 nipple fittings, you might see the, 'full floating foot buzz balance appear.' Saythat3x'sfast. I have no idea WOT you are talking about, if a 14 has a pronounced (((vibration))) you are thinking of as you ride? Simmer down, Quote Button. Get the man know meat tear out we start pointing fingers about a service neglect.

Solid pegs allow you to transmit more leg energy into the bike, to steer it vs. with just upper-body strength as many new riders do. You will feel more vibrations. I swapped mine within a month after buying the bike, put some 2004 ZX10 pegs on it, perfect!

After knurling, I'm going to groove the pegs.
If I don't like the feel of bare metal I'll make some flat O-rings from black rubber hose and fit the O-rings into the peg grooves. That setup will be B-U-L-L-E-T-P-R-O-O-F; the black O-rings will contrast nicely with the silvery aluminum pegs.

Hub: My foot runs at the ragged edge off that rubber-less stock foot peg.

Hello Hub.

That's how my feet are usually positioned; toward the pegs' outer end.
My OEM 2006 ZX-14 pegs have a rubber contact surface.
Years ago, you and I (and others) discussed peg/rearset setups for the 14.
It's about time I quit talking and go make some chips fly.
I was thinking about using a sealed needle bearing and a stainless shaft for the rear brake rearset.
I'm not sure I could sense the smoothness of the needle bearing setup; that it would be markedly distinguishable from a bronze bushing with contained lubricant.
Maybe I'll stick with a bushing; I'll O-ring it to keep lube in and grit out.
