Earbuds
09/17/12 2:07 PM

Didn't see this topic in a quick search so thought I'd start one...

Anyone have great earbud suggestions for riding with tunes in your helmet? Bluetooth still mostly sucks, from what I've experienced and read (at higher speeds) and I've spent countless hours scouring the forums for reviews on earbuds that fit under helmets. Personally, I swear by the Altec Lansing Bliss Platinum...$12 on Amazon, made for chicks but fit totally inside your ear. Tiny and comfortable as hell to ride with for several hours straight and have a non-tangle cord (just bought my second set in 3 years). Don't rape your ears when the helmet comes off either.

I use these:

http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/RP-HC55-S

Now on my third set, the on/off switch went bad after 3 years on the 2nd set, 1st set lost one side after leting my daughter use them (she's inordinately hard on earbuds for some reason) They have thei own volume control and run for quite a few hours on one AAA battery. When you turn them on, there is is distinct drop in background noise, especially steady-state noise like wind or motor noise.

The trick is to drape the wires over the tops of your ears and use the R bud in the left ear and vice versa. I also use a helmet liner (Slik) that leaves them in place when taking off or putting on your helmet.

I' ve tried over the ears earbuds and I' m not a big fan, especially when working out or wearing a helmet. Last month, I went to best buy and purchased several different earbuds (they have a great return policy). I have tried everything between $50 and $300. The winner is the ultimate ears 350. I'm using them with the cushion tips that came with the 700 series (oooops forgot to return that!) and they are great I have small ears and listen to rap, r&b, techno, rock, classical/opera. You can even hear the singer catching his breath, inhaling and the only background noises capable of getting pass them are LOUD. The wife has to yell twice! The only negative is the lettering for Left and Right that has already faded.

I love the skull candy ear buds. The ones with the mic in them. Great sound quality, comfort and you can hear them at any speed. They also help dull some of the wind noise. Did a 1200 mile weekend with them with no issues.

Fixed

Just bought a pack of 3 pairs for my Altec Lansing buds...look pretty comfy, $22 shipped isn't too bad...

*Update - got my Comply tips in, 3pk...a bit "sticky" and very mushy, feel softer than my memory foam pillow/mattress. Have some sort of white foam in the middle, maybe the wax guard? Had 'em in for an hour so far and have forgotten about them. The package lists about a hundred earbuds they are compatible with, I recommend this upgrade to any earbud if you don't mind spending an extra $20. Worth it for me!

Big Ears.com Enough said.

Custom molded to fit your ear cavity, ear canal, processor inside, angled 1/8 inch plug, plugs into my Mix-It amplifier..brings in the GPS, music in the Zumo 550 and all radar signals or alerts from the 9500i. Adjustable volume control so you can adjust volume to suit you. Or you can plug them into your Iphone with Itunes and carry it in your pocket.

I have to have the Radar detector and having the music in the Zumo really is nice...the Mix It is on both my bikes and works flawlessly.

I use Klipsch S4As with Comply T100 tips. Since I use my android as my music player being able to control my music by the button was a big plus. Course, not long after I bought them my RazR got the ICS update which broke the headset controls!

The Klipsch's are great especially if you like Bass. The silicone tips that come with them are ok. I used the double flanged ones. They blocked quite a bit of noise but it seemed like they came unseated with any accidental tug on the cord and it seemed like they had to be in the exact right spot or else they either wouldn't block enough outside noise or they blocked the noise coming from the earbud. As least for me they did. The Comply Tips fixed all those problems.

I also had a set of Skull Candy Ink'D. For the price($10-15) they do a damn good job. The rubber tips that come with them are cheap but they work(ish)

love the skull candy ear buds. The ones with the mic in them.

I just bought the skullcandy "ink'd". They are nice, I wish I would have bought the upgraded ones with the inline mic to control volume. My sony mp3 player is nice, but the volume button is kinda small with gloves on. I refuse to buy Ipods because they seem to be so damn overpriced and delicate. Between me and my family, I think we've gone thru 5 ipods...maybe they've gotten better, but Apple still uses I-Tunes...which I hate.
