Protective film
11/06/12 11:01 AM

Hi people. I use throwover saddlebags when I travel and they are scuffing up my rear side panels. Is there a clear film type product that applies/ removes fairly easily? I don't want one that requires scraping off with a putty knife.

As always, thanks.

Maddevill,

I don't know what year you have it looks like an 06 but I have a 2007 an a 2012 I put on that 3M clear bra on my 07 an love it an this winter I will be putting on my 2012. The kit was cut out for a 2007 ZX14 if I remember correctly there were about 24 pices in the whole kit.

Oh the best part is heat it up an pull it off with no knife.

Mad,I generally do about 3 or 4 long trips per year, the cheapest way to protect your paint from throw over bags is electrical tape, cheap ,easy to apply, easy to take off any left over residue comes off in the wash or by using any cleaner wax.I use oxford soft bags.I don't like bungee cords,so I make rubber bands from bicycle inner tube.Works great no scratches, packs small

The 3M paint protector is good stuff, but you can get the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart and it's almost as good. I would avoid anything with an adhesive since it can be a pita to clean up. The clear film stuff squeegees on with a little soapy water and peels off easily when you're done.

Hey Danno, do you know what the brand name of the WalMart stuff is? And in what section of the store is it found?

Thanks!

Think it's in housewares with the shelf paper. Or if you really want to go Diamond Jim, Aerostich sells Snyder's Paintguard clear paint protector film.

I was just looking into this last night. I was planning on going the electrical tape route. But now I am gonna go look at walmart and see how that looks.

These forums are incredible at saving me money and giving me ideas.
