The evolution of brake rotors: Are wave designs actually better than classic round discs?
10/27/26 12:18 AM

I’ve been tracking the evolution of brake rotors lately. Seeing new designs like the Sunstar EPTA Stage 0 pop up really shows how much manufacturers are experimenting with alternative fastening methods and wave-slit profiles, moving away from the standard floating pins we are all used to. The industry is pushing hard to cut unsprung weight while maximizing cooling efficiency.

But I’m curious about what you all actually prefer running on your own machines. Do you lean towards these modern wave and slotted designs for the performance edge, or do you strictly stick to classic round rotors? Have you noticed any real-world pros or cons in your lever feel, disc durability, or pad wear when making the switch?

What does your current brake setup look like, and why does it work for you?
