Do it yourself installation of a full exhaust system
11/06/12 6:47 PM

Just a quick question out there. When I purchase my 4 into 1 exhaust system and install it myself, do I need to mess with the oil cooler? Is there enough room to access the exhaust flange nuts or should I pay the extra bucks and have the dealer do it? I've done it in the past on my zx11, kz1000, and kz900, but those bikes had a lot more room.

I did my Brocks Alienhead on my 09 with no problem. What system are you considering?I hear the only thing on the Brocks is shimming the radiator 1/4 inch.

I've always had Muzzy's in the past. I like the looks of the M10 short megaphone. It sure cleans up the look of the bike and with the fender eliminator I've already got, it would look and sound supreme. The Muzzy system is also shipped free with no tax added.

I installed the 4 into 1 Muzzy M10 on my 14R. I had to unbolt the radiator and pull it back to get to the nuts. It was hard to get a few of them torqued down, but its doable. I would also recommend a power commander because you will get a lot of backfire, the PC won't get ride of all the backfire but it helps.

The muzzy comes with a o2 sensor and plug which should take care of the decel pressure. Yes, I'm planning on a PCV with a street map installed. My local dealer said they'd put it all on for 275. Still undecided, but leaning for the dealer. I'm sure it would mean a lot less cussing.

If you unbolt the lower section of the rad and pull it forward a bit the install is pretty easy. I installed a muzzy full system on my 14r a few months ago and it went pretty well.. If it were me i would do the install myself and save a few bucks.

Decided to go with Muzzy slip ons. Their shipping monday. I'll post a pic when ready, like nobody's ever seen a 14r with slip ons. I hope this doesn't mean I'm a pussy. But the total cost out the door is 645 and there a cinch to put on.

Iam a little late to this discussion, but here are my two cents.

I installed a full Two Brothers exhaust on my ZX and then I took them off and re-installed the OEM. In retrospect, I should have gone with slip on's. The Two Brothers were too loud and I got tired of the look of just one can. As far as installation, I left the radiator on for installation and took the radiator off for taking them off. And I found taking the radiator off to be the best way, by far.

^ I agree. I gotta have duals. Not only the look, but sound.

But to each his own.

I am going to install my full Brock's dual system and PCV myself, as well.

Okay, there on! Defiantly look better than stock. Shaves off about 30 lbs. The sound is absolutely sick.

Looks great. I bet the sound is awesome, and in stereo, as well. YOu can't beat that race bike sound of duals blaring out at you when the RPMs starts to climb.

Can't wait to hear my Brock's full dual system roar at me.

I think I'm sold on the Muzzy's as well. Any decel pop or issues without tuning?

None at all. Smooth as silk. It does have this neat warbling sound when you go off the gas, but no popping at all.

Okay Romans, I gave this a few days to think about and I don't know what else to say. No decel pop! I took it through the gears a couple of days ago and it sounded bitch'n.

Same here.

I like that deep warbling sound as the engine is deceling. No popping from my bike yet, either. So far so good.

Question please: will my Brock full exhaust system that is currently on my 2008 Zx14 fit onto a 2013 Zx14R without modifications? Many thanks.

poppabear:

Are those Muzzy slip-ons then or are they part of a full system?

How loud is loud? I like your description of the quality of the exhaust sound but am wondering about the total volume.
Did you retune the bike for the exhaust; run a re-map or add a pc? or is it good to go right out of the box?

I am planning on going to slip-ons in the spring and am thinking 2 Bros with P1 power tips cause I don't want an intrusive drone at cruising speed; but, I gotta say, I really like the look of those Muzzys on your ride.

They are sleek and understated visually; I like the minimalist look. Also appreciate the lower price of slip-ons and easy install. I put KR-tuned slip-ons on my old gen 1 ZX14 and had the shop optimize the tuning and I was done and happy with the results except for the too loud drone on the highway, even with the reduction inserts installed.

Your Muzzy install is a very sharp look on the blue 14R; makes the others look bloated, but they all look better than the stock behemoths.

How loud is loud depends on your preference. These slip-ons are slightly louder than my muzzy full 4-1 I had on my zx11. I would go with the 2-bros as long as you can adjust the tip. I wasn't initially sure how loud they would be, but after getting them on I'm 100% happy with them. We've got so many open pipe harleys running around hear the police don't seem to notice.
I took the old pipes off and had these on in less than 30 minutes. No tuning or pcv needed. Their smooth as can be. But ya know, to each his own.

Come on man! Don't touch Dogo's bike it is perfect just like that lol
If I had to answer your question, I would say yes. Snuffy took his CT-duals from his 07 and installed them on its 12 so should be kosher since the optional ABS and new colors are the only upgrades for 2013.

Those dual muzzys are nice. That is what I have on my zzr1200, and I cannot get enough of the sound.

HmmHmm, looks good on the 1200 also.

You fellas got me thinkin' Muzzy instead of Two Bros.

Maybe I can find a representative install in my area for a listen. But I gotta give them some hard consideration, what with the clean look and your smooth running report and praise for the sound.

Thanks for the feedback.
