New ZX-14 Owner Here
11/01/13 4:41 PM

I just bought a ZX-14 as my first bike, any tips? ;-)

Not really, I am a new ZX-14 owner but have been riding since....1978. So that makes me officially an "Old Fart". Anyway, after riding a GoldWing for the last 10 years or so I was feeling the itch for a sportbike. After drooling over almost everything out there, I really fell in love with the ZX-14. I found a really nice 2008 Special Edition in like-new condition from a private seller not too far away and came away with it.

I'm just sorry I waited so long, the ZX-14 is the sweetest motorcycle I've ever ridden. I love the way it's well-behaved but has a monster inside that is ready to come out whenever I want it to. I'm sure I'll never take this bike much past half it's maximum speed but it's a hoot knowing it's there.

Glad to be here and I'm sure I'll be looking for maintenance tips and the like here.

Grn14,

Good question! I still have the GL1800 and so I ride both. Obviously very different riding experiences but both machines are, in my opinion, the ultimate rides in their own way.

It does feel a little funny moving from the ZX-14 to the GL for a few miles. I'm sure a lot of that is the riding position and the full fairing. Of course on the GoldWing it's quite since there is little wind noise and the engine doesn't have that ZX-14 "growl". No comparison on ride quality. The GL1800 is smooth as glass even on the bumpy roads around where I live. But the ZX-14 feels connected to the road, that's a good/bad thing but it's what I expect from it.

No way I could choose one over the other. Of course my wife has no intention of getting on the ZX-14 behind me but the GL1800's passenger seat is like an EZ-Chair, so she'll do that.

Welcome jwh20, Welcome and congrats on the new bike, sounds like you've got the ultimate combo. The 14 must feel really light and nimble is comparison to your Goldwing. How much does a Goldwing weigh?

Well, if I'm not mistaken, I think the gross weight on a GL1800 is upwards of 900 lbs. Of course one of the things about the Wing is that it doesn't handle like a 1/2 ton bike.

But I'm loving the ZX14! No way to compare these two rides, each is unique in its own way.
