Hello all. Just brought home my new 14 on Saturday, what a machine! I rode for a few hours and I think I'm going to need some more leg room to be comfortable on it. I looked at the Knight Design 1 3/8" lowering pegs, but I know some people were worried about cornering clearance and rear brake adjustability. Is it a better idea to go with a new rear set instead? I don't want to sacrifice any cornering ability. If so, what rear set is recommended?

I've tried a couple of different ones.
Stock, Then went to this setup, 360 degree pegs. Fit in stock peg location and didn't require any mods to brake or
shifter. I wear a size 13 1/2 shoe so worked for me.

Eventually went with a fully adjustable set off ebay as I wanted to change shift pattern to reverse shift and install a quick shifter.

It would be nice if there was a comprehensive test done that focussed on foot peg height range of rearsets. I like Vortex. It seems most adjustable. Satos are on the busa and there are not as many adjustments but the range seems similar. Recently found out about Striker reasets and they seem to adjust higher and farther back so you might check on the lowering capability of those. They seem like very nice rearsets.

If you don't want to sacrifice cornering clearance, Don't go with rearsets. From my measurements, the Vortex rearsets don't improve cornering clearance because the pegs are longer. If you cut them shorter, that would do it but that would be tricky because the bolt goes right through the center. You could try to bevel, the bottom of the tips like the stock footpegs but you may run into the center bolt problem there too.

The stock pegs are really the best for cornering clearance because they have the spring hinge in case you do touch a peg. There was once some plates that attached to the stock footpeg bracket that allowed you to lower the stock pegs. That would be best and also it was not too expensive. I not sure I would mess with the brake pedal height too much. It might not be dangerous if you have a short toe peg sticking out. Get used to lifting your foot up to rear brake.

I had them on my 07 and now on my 12. The difference in comfort is night and day but they do move the pegs outward as well as down. Cornering clearance is affected but I have gotten used to putting the ball of my foot on the peg when cornering with the feeler dragging and the peg starting to fold and so far have had no problems.
There are trade offs with most things but the increased comfort makes this setup worthwhile.

I had a bracket laser cut to move the pegs by 20mm lower and 10mm back and added a spacer to the rear shock raising the bike by 30mm. No peg scraping so far.

Supposedly, from what I read at various places online, they will work on a ZX 14. I may give them a try at some point. Just a thought.

I use these pegs. They have two settings, 25 and 40mm. I have mine set at 25mm. I am 6'5". I have scrapped the outside of my boot during adventurous riding but that is leaning a good way over. I find these, along with adjusting the gear lever and brake lever, the near perfect fit.

I have the Murph's and the first thing to touch down is my foot.

I have Murphs also, love the pegs! It was weird at first since in order to get the pegs lowered past the hinge mechanism they are out further than the OEMs on the surface where your boot rides. What I mean is your left foot is 3/4" farther to the left, and your right foot is 3/4" farther to the right, and both feet are now 1"+ lower with about double the surface area compared to stock for your shoe to sit on.

I screwed some OEM curb feelers into the Murphs pegs and went out to try and touch em. I can scrape both sides, but the pegs fold just like OEM anyways so no problems there. Much more comfortable to sport-tour on, and I had mine powdercoated flat black to blend into the bike, they look stock.

I used theses. Worked great. Fits stock location and also fold n like stock pegs in case of a tip over.

I replaced the long "feeler" screws with shorty's.

I have the Murphs, and just screwed the stock feelers into them. I have yet to touch anything down. Er, ymmv.
