immobiliser issue
06/03/16 5:06 AM

calling all electronic whizzkids, or whomever may have any light to shed
few months back immobiliser failed to disengage, couldnt start bike, 30 mins later, it started, got to brothers house, an hour later it wouldnt start, left it at his overnight, next morning, started
replaced battery, all was good with bike until last week, now has decided to do the same again, last night about 15 attempts, always had big key flash on the dash, gave up,
this morning it worked fine, no key on dash, fuel pump priimed every time,
so, how does this happen, i dont think keys can lose code and find code again, so thinkingecu is on the blink, or electromagnetic field around ignition is acting up...ideas?
yes i know main dealer, thats last resort, this way i learn something, or not!

Since it's comes and goes, been out of the ECU loop since 1999, have zip field experience like this intermittent business, so if the key icon light comes on, more like installing a battery charger to it, keep the key on, and start to tug on wires off the ECU's wire harness and work your way up to the key switch.

good idea, although nothing had been disturbed since last night /this morning, only thing i moved was the key, but for sure its right thing to do, be methodical and rule out the simple stuff

Quick question, do USA versions come with factory immobiliser?
Have mine switched off now, but default ktrac setting has returned

Ok, my ecu has been put into USA mode to bypass immobiliser issue, so next question, you guys can flash ecu so that it holds "off mode" in ktrac, after you switch off bike ,,it doesnt return to default mode 1?

Correct. Flashed with 1-Off default, turn key off, turn key on, 1-Off default remains.

What is USA mode or do they just disable the immobilizer on the euro version ECU?

When you see the white pins replacing the wires at the back of the ECU harness, those are for the immobilizer wiring setup. Not all, I'm just saying that the harness would be filled with more wire. Then, you'd have to go to the dealer, who has the startup reprogram to the system so the immobilizer is now setup and working.

The bike has factory immobiliser, the key has a chip, keys were stolen before, so , ecu was opened to replace chip, 2 years ago, now immobiliser has erratically functioned, possibly heat related dodgy solder, but the resin applied makes it very difficult to check, so because USA version had no immobiliser , it's easy just to switch it off- ie- USA version- it's just the words I used to describe going without immobiliser
So, I've had a generic flash done when I sent ecu for new keys/chip, not to main dealer, that means new ecu
A local guy put on a custom flash using dyno, and disabled the immobiliser function, made easy because USA version is not supplied with immobiliser, therefore the facility is there to turn it off

But now my bike doesn't stay in ktrac off mode, hence why I asked if you guys have default mode switched off, which you do,so it should be simple for mine to do that again
